It's almost my #oneYear here on my Mastodon instance @fed.sbcloud.cc! I was never a twitter user, deleted my FB/ig/etc - but I LOVED the idea of maintaining 100% control over my data, so I added #mastodon to my #fedi server, thinking my friends could use it even if I didn't.
But boy did I!
I genuinely love this placeless place - that exists entirely on my own computer but also the entire planet. I still have the same awe as when I connected to my first #bbs.
Long live the #fediverse!

Wow. It's official. It has been a year since I discovered #Mastodon and the #fediverse. I still have a bit of that 1990s web feeling of pure, self directed, discovery. It is why this place is conpelling. I am also so grateful for having connected with such a great group of new friends.
This year I *will* convince more people to come here and stay and I will build places for people to do that. Plans are already in the works. I want my real life community in #PortAlberni and #VancouverIsland and #BC to discover this place. I want it to be the place for immediate news to appear on, for government orgs to post updates, for people to rely on.
The #OpenSocialWeb with #ActivityPub is the future of social interaction. Billionaires have had their time. It's our time now.
