Our analysis of Samsung beta programs (One UI 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5)
Samsung opens beta programs for select Galaxy devices every time they plan to release a new version of One UI. Those beta programs exist to gather user’s feedback and bug reports to help improve the software, and new beta builds will be released to fix issues and add more features prior to the official release.
We have analyzed Samsung’s beta programs that were run recently, and the results are in. To summarize, One UI 8.5 has the longest beta program duration, while One UI 8.0 is the shortest, with One UI 7.0 in the middle, according to the start and the end dates of the program for the first device, inclusive. Please note that we have only taken the first device that joined the beta program, not the overall beta program duration that spans multiple devices, as the ending date reflects the official rollout start date.
One UI 7.0
Anticipation started when One UI 7.0 got leaked to the public back in July 2024, and several appearances were made before the official beta program started. The Galaxy S24 was the first device to join the beta program on December 5th, 2024, and the stable version was released to the Galaxy S25 on January 2025. It was anticipated that February 2025 would be the release month, but that didn’t materialize until April 7th, 2025, when the beta program closed.
One UI 7.0 had a rough start when the release was made, because a serious bug caused Samsung to pull the update from the servers on April 12th. Then, five days later, One UI 7.0 was released again. We will still, however, use April 7th as the marker for the ending of the beta program, as well as the Korean region, for more accuracy.
The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S24 series:
- Samsung Galaxy S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra
- One UI 7 Beta 1 (build ZXKZ): December 5th, 2024 (article, recruitment)
- One UI 7 Beta 2 (build ZXL5): December 16th, 2024
- One UI 7 Beta 3 (build ZXLJ): January 6th, 2025
- One UI 7 Beta 4 (build ZYBA): February 19th, 2025
- One UI 7 Beta 5 (build ZYC6): March 17th, 2025
- One UI 7 Beta 6 (build ZYCE): March 26th, 2025
The stable release happened after the sixth beta, with the stable release that followed it:
- Samsung Galaxy S24
- Build BYCG for KOO: April 7th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
- Build BYCG for EUX: April 10th, 2025 (taken down April 12th)
- Build BYD9 for KOO: April 17th, 2025
- Build BYD9 for EUX: April 23rd, 2025
Suppose that build ZXKZ was released on December 5th, 2024, for the beta program participants, and that BYCG was released on April 7th, 2025, to the public, we have calculated the date difference between those two dates, with April 7th being included.
Therefore, our analysis shows that 4 months, 3 days was the duration of the program for the Galaxy S24. Other devices’ beta programs are shorter, but they are irrelevant for this article. One third of a year with 3 more days were spent on adding features and making improvements.
The development history of One UI 7.0 is available by clicking on this link.
One UI 8.0
Shortly after One UI 7.0 concluded its beta program and got expanded to more devices, One UI 8.0’s beta program started on May 28th, 2025, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant of the beta program. This also introduced a new way to enter the beta program, which simplified things a lot, compared to One UI 7.0 and earlier, because you just had to enter the beta program page and check to see if a beta program is available to you. The stable rollout started on September 15th, 2025.
The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25 series:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (S25 Edge excluded) [Beta shutdown September 15th, 2025]
- One UI 8 Beta 1 (build ZYER): May 28th, 2025 (article, recruitment)
- One UI 8 Beta 2 (build ZYF3): June 12th, 2025
- One UI 8 Beta 3 (build ZYFA): June 30th, 2025
- One UI 8 Beta 4 (build ZYGB): July 30th, 2025 (announcement)
- One UI 8 Beta 5 (build ZYH6): August 19th, 2025
- One UI 8 Beta 6 (build ZYHB): August 28th, 2025
- One UI 8 Beta 7 (build ZYI3): September 8th, 2025
The stable release happened after 7 beta versions, and the dates are:
- Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra (article)
- KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
- EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3/BYI3/BYI3)
- Galaxy S25 Edge (article)
- KOO: September 15th, 2025 (BYI3)
- EUX: September 18th, 2025 (BYI3)
Suppose that build ZYER was released for the beta participants on May 28th, 2025, and that BYI3 was released on September 15th, 2025, for the Korean variant. We have calculated the difference between two dates, with the end date being included to make the length consistent.
Therefore, our analysis shows that 3 months, 19 days was the duration of the beta program for the Galaxy S25, which means a quarter of a year and two weeks with 5 more days of bug fixes and new features.
One UI 8.5
Here’s when we’ve come to the present, with One UI 8.5 being released on May 6th, 2026, after the beta program was closed. On December 8th, 2025, One UI 8.5 beta was finally released, with the Galaxy S25 as the first participant. It brought the new ambient design that revolutionizes the way you use your device.
The following beta builds were released for the Galaxy S25:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra [Beta shutdown May 6th, 2026]
- One UI 8.5 Beta 1 (build ZYL8): December 8th, 2025 (article)
- One UI 8.5 Beta 2 (build ZYLH): December 22nd, 2025
- One UI 8.5 Beta 3 (build ZZA3): January 5th, 2026
- One UI 8.5 Beta 4 (build ZZAL): February 9th, 2026
- One UI 8.5 Beta 5 (build ZZAN): February 19th, 2026
- One UI 8.5 Beta 6 (build ZZAO): February 26th, 2026 (after Galaxy S26 unveil)
- One UI 8.5 Beta 7 (build ZZC7): March 12th, 2026
- One UI 8.5 Beta 8 (build ZZCD): March 26th, 2026 (expansion article)
- One UI 8.5 Beta 9 (build ZZD5): April 9th, 2026
- One UI 8.5 Beta 10 (build ZZDD): April 20th, 2026
After ten beta versions of bug fixes and feature additions, as well as the AirDrop support on Quick Share for you to be able to share photos and other files to iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, the stable version of One UI 8.5 was released on May 6th, 2026 for the Korean variant, with the global rollout being expected this week, including Canada, USA, India, and Europe.
So, suppose that build ZYL8 was released on December 8th, 2025, for beta program participants, and build CZDP was released on May 6th, 2026 for Korean users. Therefore, we can conclude that the duration of the beta program was 4 months, 29 days, or a third of a year and four weeks with an extra day of bug fixes and feature additions.
Which beta program is the longest?
So, our analysis has covered One UI 7.0, 8.0, and this year’s 8.5, and the beta program durations for the first participating Galaxy flagship device are in! Let’s see which beta program is the longest in the ascending order.
- One UI 8.0: 3 months, 19 days
- One UI 7.0: 4 months, 3 days
- One UI 8.5: 4 months, 29 days
We can now finally say that One UI 8.0 is the shortest of the three beta programs in duration, and that One UI 8.5 beats One UI 7.0, which was believed to be Samsung’s longest beta program.
One UI 8.5 is now available on Galaxy S25, S25 Edge, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z TriFold, S25 FE, and Z Flip7 FE, starting from Korea, with the expansion coming in the next few days or weeks, depending on the device model and the sales region. Samsung has also announced the beginning of the One UI 8.5 rollout in their newsroom, with more devices to get the update. You can see the changelogs of One UI 8.5 here.
To get the full experience, the Galaxy S26 provides more features, such as the 24MP camera and various new Galaxy AI features, than the Galaxy S25’s version of One UI 8.5, provided that certain features, like the 24MP camera, are exclusive to the Galaxy S26.

77 statuetek i dwa złote medale. Samsung z imponującym wynikiem na iF Design Awards 2026
Międzynarodowy konkurs iF Design Awards to jeden z najważniejszych sprawdzianów dla projektantów elektroniki użytkowej.
Pierwsza z nich trafiła do głośnika Samsung Music Studio 5.
Oprogramowanie i smart home w cenie
Zebrane w ten sposób dane pozwalają systemowi na rekomendowanie użytkownikom zoptymalizowanych i w pełni spersonalizowanych rozwiązań w zakresie zarządzania domową elektroniką.
Ponad 70 lat historii konkursu
Plebiscyt iF Design Awards to nagroda z ogromnymi tradycjami. Organizacja została założona w 1953 roku pod nazwą „Die Gute Industrieform eV”. Obecnie ocenia projekty w dziewięciu głównych dyscyplinach (m.in. projektowanie produktów, opakowań, komunikacji, architektura wnętrz czy interfejsy i doświadczenia użytkownika – UI/UX).

Exclusive: Screen off animation broken after the September patch for the Galaxy Tab S8
Recently, Samsung has pushed the security patch for the Galaxy Tab S8 series that allowed the tablet to be updated to the September 2025 security patch (build DYI1), according to the quarterly security update schedule for the tablet. It is built on top of One UI 7 with Android 15 as the base system.
While evaluating the version, we’ve noticed an odd bug where the screen off animation wouldn’t play when either the screen turns off by itself or you turn it off by pressing the side button. This bug didn’t exist in the July security patch (build DYF4). However, it didn’t impact the functionality of the tablet; applications open very fast and everything works perfectly in One UI 7.
You can see the bug in action in a video we posted here:
https://twitter.com/OfficialAptivi/status/1975608523569709539
As we are just a few days away from the rollout of the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Tab S8, we hope that this bug gets fixed in the update that is being worked on right now. According to Güncel Miyiz, the tablet should receive the update globally on the 16th of October, with the Korean release date being earlier according to recent rollout logs.
To obtain the update, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app
- Navigate to Software update
- Tap on Download and Install
- You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
- Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.
This security update should take 5 to 10 minutes maximum to install once your phone reboots. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later. To mitigate green line issues caused by heat, do the update on a well-ventilated room.

Samsung Galaxy F17 officially launches on Flipkart!
Samsung India has launched the Galaxy F17 to the Indian market exclusively to Flipkart. This phone is a rebrand of the A17 and is a successor to the last year’s Galaxy F16. This phone brings some of the upgrades over the predecessor, and the infographics below show this phone and its features.
First of all, the F17 is only 0.75 cm thin, which makes this phone the first thin device from the F series. Alongside that, the display is an AMOLED display with the toughest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. This is to make sure that your phone becomes durable.
The Galaxy F17 comes with three rear cameras, which are:
- 50 MP main camera with the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) system,
- 5 MP ultra-wide angle camera, and
- 2 MP macro camera.
The phone promises that there will be no shaking in the camera during photography, which makes your photos much better than before. Whether it’s a nature shot or a portrait shot, your phone captures the photos in the clearest of the details.
As for the selfie camera, this phone equips a 13 MP front camera sensor, which makes your selfies look more clear.
The Galaxy F17 comes in two colors: Violet Pop and Neo Black. Choose one of the two colors that you like, and enjoy your Galaxy F17!
The Galaxy F17 also comes with the 128 GB of storage with either 4 GB of RAM, 6 GB, or 8 GB. The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh, and the charging is rated at 25 W, which means that your phone will charge in less time for more uptime.
The phone is also equipped with the resistance rating of IP54, which makes for water and dust resistance. Exynos 1330 is used as the System on a Chip (SoC) on the phone, as it’s an in-house Samsung chip, to guarantee performance.
The 6.7″ Super AMOLED screen comes with the refresh rate of 90 hertz, which means that you can enjoy smoother transitions while also enjoying the color vibrancy and black accuracy. The phone uses One UI 7 as the base operating system, with One UI 8 being the first update out of the six generations of OS upgrades.
The Galaxy F17 is priced at ₹14,499 and ₹15,999.

Samsung App Showcase: Collection – More Settings
Earlier, we’ve showcased the leaked Collection app that came from the Chinese Galaxy phones in our earlier article. Now, this article is the continuation of the discovery of this app, but we’ve discovered more screens than before.
Survey notice
First of all, Samsung has sent a notice a few days ago to make us review our experience with the Collection app. This was the survey:
This survey asked three questions:
- User Satisfaction: The survey asked how satisfied was the user during the usage of Collection.
- Reason for Dissatisfaction: At least one reason as to how Collection can be improved.
- Rating: In the scale from 0 to 10, to what extent does the user recommend to family and friends?
Once we clicked Submit, we got this page:
Intelligent Drag-n-Drop Settings
As for the second feature we’ve discovered when listing the new Quick Action buttons to add, we’ve discovered a quick switch toggle for the Intelligent Drag and Drop (that doesn’t work on One UI 7 and 6).
Adding this button will result in a quick switch toggle that allows you to quickly turn this feature on and off. It’s turned on by default. It’s simple, isn’t it?
Holding this option leads to the Intelligent Drag and Drop settings that looks like this:
Currently, this page provides three settings options:
- Supported apps: Lists supported applications for the Intelligent Drag and Drop feature (that is, drag and drop things from those applications).
- Services in sidebar: Lists recommended services to turn on when the intelligent drag and drop sidebar appears.
- Sidebar position: Either left or right at the edge of your screen.
Pressing Supported apps leads to this screen that lists basically all apps that support intelligent drag and drop, such as Chrome and Instagram. Other apps like WhatsApp are not supported.
As for the services in the sidebar settings, all supported services (like ChatGPT) will show up, alongside the Chinese services (Baidu, WeChat, QQ, Weibo, etc.) to download to your device.
Selecting the sidebar position settings leads to this minimalistic configuration screen that shows you how the sidebar will appear on your device.
Of course, the Intelligent Drag and Drop sidebar requires One UI 8 and a Chinese Galaxy device, and, thus, won’t work on One UI 7 or earlier.

Samsung Galaxy A52s is not eligible for the One UI 8 update
Recently, there has been some leaked information regarding the alleged roadmap for the One UI 8 update for Galaxy smartphones, and it originated from what the official Samsung Turkish website, called Güncel Miyiz, had claimed. While creating our own article about the tentative Samsung Türkiye schedule for One UI 8 update for their devices, we only took a snapshot of the info that the above source said.
However, there have been some news that posted the exact same timeline that the above source provided, but with additional devices that are not eligible for One UI 8.0, and one of those devices is the Galaxy A52s.
To recap, the Galaxy A52s was released with three generations of OS updates on September 1st, 2021, before the longevity plan, which allowed four generations of OS updates, had materialized. The Galaxy A52s was released with Android 11 and One UI 3.1, and it received three updates, with the latest being One UI 6.1 and Android 14. Since then, this device didn’t receive the One UI 7.0 update. Several devices, such as the A04 series (A04e, A04, and A04s), A13 5G, and the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, didn’t receive One UI 7.0.
So, how can you say that the Galaxy A52s is going to receive the One UI 8.0 update on October 13th when it didn’t even get One UI 7.0?
According to the latest firmware information, there have been no builds that pertain to One UI 7.0 and One UI 8.0, and this already confirms that the Galaxy A52s is not eligible for the update. In fact, this device is still supported in the quarterly security patch cadence (testing is currently at A528NKSS7GYI1 and A528BXXSBGYI1) as an enterprise model, but is on the verge of being unsupported soon as it is a 2021 device. Please know that Samsung doesn’t skip a One UI version for software updates (except for x.x.1 version series), and that the Galaxy A52s is not going to skip One UI 7.0 for One UI 8.0.
The original source, Güncel Miyiz, even claimed that this device is not going to be updated for One UI 8.0, as the “Current Operating System” claims that this device has One UI 6.1 with Android 14, and that no OS updates have been planned.
So, the short answer is that the Galaxy A52s is not going to receive the One UI 8.0 update, as some leaks claim otherwise.

Samsung App Showcase: Collection
As the stable One UI 8 rollout begins this September, we’re showcasing a first-party Samsung application that is not available globally except China, called Collection. The APK file got leaked and we’re able to download the file using the link here.
While you can access this app from devices running One UI 6 (2023) and One UI 7 (2025), your experience will feel limited, as you can’t generate summaries for collected items, such as images and text. To gain full experience, One UI 8 is required.
This app allows you to collect text, images, and other elements for quick access in groups known as collections. It’s like an information management system that simplifies the task of having to collect information from dozens of places into a single place, saving time and increasing productivity. For example, you can add a useful chart (as an image) you found on the web to your collection for later reference, or you can copy a block of useful information you found on the Internet to your collection.
To get started, you’ll need to turn off the Auto Blocker feature first, as it prevents APKs from being installed. Then, download the APK file and install it on your device running One UI 6 or later. You can re-enable Auto Blocker once the installation finishes.
Then, go to Settings > Advanced features, and you should see a new button, called Collection.
Press it, and you should see a new menu. Turn on the “Shortcut” checkbook, and you should see a new app called Collection on your home screen.
Open it, and you should be prompted for permissions. Press Allow, and you should be on the main screen.
Now, let’s try creating a collection. First, we took eight images that describe the same thing by using the Share function and selecting Collection at the bottom of the list.
After that, they’ll be immediately be added to the collection, just like below.
Now, let’s try taking a screenshot and saving it to the collection. Below is the source screenshot.
When sharing it to Collection using the Share option that appears at the bottom of the screen once you take a screenshot, it will be added to a new collection.
Pressing an image will yield a preview of the collection that allows you to save it.
Press Save, and a toast message will appear telling you that the collection has been saved successfully. However, the localization used in this success notification is in Chinese.
Once done, open the file manager to the
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Collectiondirectory to find your saved photo collections here. Now, let’s try saving a block of text from Chrome to the collection. In One UI 7, we don’t get to see the Summarize button because we’re not running One UI 8 on the Galaxy Tab S8 due to the rollout not starting yet. However, we do get to read the text and to use the text to speech synthesizer to read it aloud.
Do you find Samsung Collection useful?

Content Credentials rolling out to Samsung Gallery
Content Credentials, a tool that reveals answers to questions about the content in the picture, which is used by companies like Adobe and Microsoft, is now rolling out to Samsung Gallery on phones and tablets that are running Android 15 and One UI 7 or higher. This rollout starts from the Gallery app, version 15.6.04.2.
If you edit new pictures using the AI tools found in the app itself, you’ll notice a new button that sits next to the “Contains AI-generated content” label. That button is depicted by the Content Credentials logo, and the label now shows a summary of all AI edits that were done.
When you press the Content Credentials button, you’ll be able to see the full edit history of the picture, just like below:
