I was sad to learn Radio 3 presenter, Geoffrey Smith, recently died at the age of 82.
Mainly know for presenting Jazz Record Requests he had one of the network’s most cherished voices, which was reflected in the way he opened the show with his distinctive “Hel-low…” as if he was talking to you in person.
In addition to his radio work he wrote a well-respected biography of French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli.
