❤️ Mumu passed away at the Bath Institution for the Blind and Deaf.
🇸🇱 Born in Sierra Leone, Mumu’s real name is unknown. As a young child, she was kidnapped by slavers and put on board a slave ship.
⚓️ The ship was then rescued by the West Africa Squadron.
🇬🇧 When she was about 11, she was invited to study at the Bath Institution, where she thrived. For more, see my books on Somerset.

It’s kinda inevitable when the story’s in the form of a memoir detailing how an author came to write one of his books.

Charles Perrault, French author and academic, died on this date in 1703.
Although you might not be familiar with his name he was an important figure who laid the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale.
His 1697 book Histoires ou Contes du Temps Passé (Tales and Stories of the Past with Morals) was largely based on works derived from earlier folk tales.
He is famous for tales such as: "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," "Puss in Boots," "Sleeping Beauty," and "Bluebeard."
He can be credited with influencing the German versions of many similar stories published by the Brothers Grimm more than 100 years later.
