  1. A good recap from Natalie Whiting (ABCNews). And while I don’t wish to add to the newsmedia *Beat up* it has so obviously become (as well as a political jab from Tri-Opposition), it does highlight #AlboPM ‘s *faux pas* in a monumental error of PR exercise for which he is paying dearly — as he should. I say this because the #PM would’ve been briefed on the *Cultural* significance of #TakaiichiPM ‘s State gift during her visit to Australia. Hence there is no excuse for *wanting* to pander to a stupid show host’s crass proddings. This is all on Albo (and whomever convinced him to go on these #Nutter shows), even as the Japanese govt wishes (despite its ambasadorial opinion piece), in true face-saving efforts, to sweep it all under the carpet. See, nothing to see here.

  5. In #Japan when you have kid in kindergarten, the #omiyage game gets to whole new level. You have to select something that has no allergens so all kids in class can eat it, it is not very sweet, non-sticky, but also appropriately attractive to majority 3-6yos and reasonably flat, then buy number of kids times little bags, open the boxes and repack to and put each kid’s name. Then somehow transport this now terribly fragile cargo on either bicycle or on super packed bus/train in the morning.

  10. @networker_365 Are these still a popular souvenir gift from UK to Japan? We took a few of the jute & fabric ones as #omiyage a few years back…

  19. There is something really special about Japanese sweets. An old workmate of mine brought this box of Fukusaya Cube castella cake as #omiyage and it was.... stunning.

From the perfectly portioned, perfectly designed and overall elegant packaging, to the amazingly traditionally moist, moreish eggy Portuguese inspired cake, it has it all.

I wish we had this sort of gift we could give in return, instead of TimTams or Vegemite. Oz gifts seem to either be cheap rubbish, or super premium items.
