  1. Activating the #HBCU #encomm net for a drill on 20m. Hundreds of #colleges and #universities on the air in the #US, throughout the #Caribbean and #africa, and the #diaspora. <Sike> an #OMIK #aprilfools dream. May it be so. Ashe. #blackmaston #blacksinstem #hamradio #AmateurRadio

  2. Okay. It was fun listening to the #omik #cw net on 40m last night. I always wondered how a #cw net works! My copying was a little rusty at 12 wpm. It’s been a minute.🙄🤣

  3. @kb6nu I just learned about Qtel, the #echolink client for #linux from someone in the #OMIK net moments ago.

  4. @KF0UNK @kb6nu @n8gnj @vk2tty @9v1rt Recommend reading the paper but my take away was that radio was a #greenbook on the air for #black travelers BITD and they created their own on air culture that survives today on #omik nets and zoom meetings.

  5. one thing about #omik folk everything is professional and best practice. omikradio.org/

  6. So I reached out to fellow members of #OMIK about @howardu #AmateurRadio Society and I learned that the club was active from 1953-1970 with the callsign W3RID. there’s even an article about the college club in the school 📰 I wonder if @arrl has any record of the club. I’d love to work with students, professors and other alumni to reactivate HARS!

  7. CW: perception of hams, bigotry, etc.

@kc2ihx @Righttobeorg I like the way that the @PrideRadioGroup and #OMIK are leveraging #voip platforms because it is hard to get away with being a #bigot and anonymous—like you can on #phone on #HF .

  8. I had a chance to reach a secret goal over this weekend. I spoke with an #Ghanaian #AmateurRadio operator #WestAfrica on the #OMIK #Echolink net. One of my bucket list items was to have a QSO with someone from #africa. I imagined that it would be over #hf but I'll take the #echolink contact for now. 😁
