We were sitting around playing rags at Clifftop and started trying to define what makes a tune a "rag". Some fiddle tunes have "rag" in the title but clearly aren't. We decided that to be a rag it has to originate in the jazz genre. Otherwise it is just a sparkling fiddle tune.

Why are there no Swing bands that use a hammer dulcimer? I feel like you could do a lot of Lionel Hampton on hammer dulcimer and it would give it a fun twist if you did it in a respectful way that acknowledges the history of the dance and the music.

A bit of a stretch, but do I know anyone who's familiar with traditional Irish, English, and/or old-time folk tunes? Trying to find the name of a few tunes that I still can't figure out even though I know I've heard them a million times before at old-time jams and contra dances and what not. I've been scouring @thesession with no luck!
The one labeled "Tune 4" is still eluding me. It's a medley so if you skip to half way through or so it will change and I'm trying to figure out both tunes.

In April of 2025 Rhiannon Giddens reunited with her former Carolina Chocolate Drops bandmate Justin Robinson to release “What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow.” It's an album of old-time and string band music filled with traditional Appalachian and North Carolina tunes. Fantastic and a must-hear for #bleugrass, #OldTime, #fiddle, #banjo, and #Americana music fans.

What #bands are all the cool #adhd kids listening to on repeat? Bonus points for #punk #oldtime #progressive bands. I am looking for EARWORMS - those songs that make your brain happy when you play them on loop until you never want to hear them again.
Also looking for any indie bands I can support OUTSIDE major streaming apps (direct purchase / download).
