Thank to you Alert Listener Phil Z for sending a huge envelope of old radio station bumper stickers to decorate the walls of our studio in #McKeesport including some from McKeesport's late, lamented WIXZ (1360).

I'm going to put these on my car and see if I can win a Plymouth Barracuda.

Apparently this morning's project is wget’ing a bunch of retired web pages from an old WNYC show (Studio 360), pulling out the links to mp3s, and downloading them. All because the podcast feed only goes back three years instead of covering all 20+ years.

Why? Because there are interesting conversations.

Looks like The Fishko Files are after that.

Here are some before and after shots of the restored radio. It's always very satisfying to see the comparison after all the dirt and grime that has accumulated over decades is removed. Now it looks almost like it did over 60 years ago when it came out of the factory.

The radio I started restoring some time ago is now finally working. It still needs to be put back together, but at least everything is working again :blobfoxhappy:​

I also find it quite amusing and fascinating to set the radio to longwave reception and listen to the noise produced by the switch mode power supplies in modern devices such as lamps and smartphones, don't ask me why :blobfoxlaughsweat:​ (I'll show videos of that in a reply to this post)

Time for a new project, on the workbench this time is a radio from 1961/62. It was sitting in a barn for who knows how long before I grabbed it and it definitely looks ike that. Let's see if I can bring it back to life, it would be the first one with stereo in my collection ^^

My fiance is really into listening to old time radio programs - murder mysteries and crime thrillers from the late 1940's to the late 1980's. A lot of the stories are really great, and I've been absorbed into them as we drive around.

If you're interested, the site that provides them is called OTR Now, and they provide streams for four radio stations, 24/7. They also have archives where you can listen to specific programs by year. It's a wonderful site, and gives you insight into what life was like back then - from commercials and news briefs to strict adherance to the Hayes Code.
