My parents & I took our first North Island nature adventures road trip to Gold River. I was able to show them the incredible natural beauty that surrounds the Nootka Sound area. I took them caving for their first time. It's "World Photography Day". I went through some of my old pictures & created a few collages of the time I was in Greece with my mom and Dimi for around 6 weeks when I was about 15.
They went over there in April when Dimi was about 9 months old. After school got out for the summer in May, me & my cousin Harriet, who was more like an aunt to me (my grandma's age) flew over & joined them.

A story about my hometown.
I was born and raised in a city called Daejeon in Korea. There's a district called Yuseong, which is famous for its hot springs dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. The photo above shows what Yuseong Hot Springs looked like many years ago.
Yuseong is quite large, and it wasn't originally part of Daejeon. In fact, Yuseong was once larger than Daejeon, before Daejeon began to grow around its railway station. As Daejeon expanded, Yuseong was eventually absorbed into the city in 1914.
But that didn't change the popularity of Yuseong's hot springs. People from Daejeon often took buses all the way to Yuseong just to visit them, and getting there was quite a journey back then. The hot spring district may have been smaller than it is today, but it was already well known, partly because of a story that a king of the Joseon Dynasty was cured of a skin disease after bathing in its waters.
Sadly, the hot spring district has been declining in recent years, and many businesses struggled to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, Yuseong Hot Springs remain an important part of the history of my hometown.

This is an old #rppc #postcard that I bought at a shop in #Schenectady a couple of years back. Fascinated with it but never sure just what to do with it. It's a real photo postcard showing "Dick on Mohawk River at Schenectady in 1917 while working in G.E."
General Electric's main plant was very close to the #MohawkRiver, and I can attest that even decades later, the river was subject to some mighty freezes.

When I took this – or even ten years ago, for that matter – I could not have imagined that city newsstands would almost completely disappear someday. This is from November 1979, in downtown #SyracuseNY. His name was Pete Mussi, and he was a fixture there for decades. He's holding up the afternoon paper, because at the time a city the size of Syracuse could still support two newspapers.
