  1. Lusogeek streamer update: I’ve been ill since Monday with a nasty cold; I’m currently on the mend, having used the ‘special treatment’ from the Tetrio game and, with the help of a family member, getting rid of old documents, newspapers, magazines and other unnecessary items.

  2. July 1870: Just a couple of months before wildly miscalculating what turned into the Franco-Prussian war. Presented for no particular reason.

  3. When I took this – or even ten years ago, for that matter – I could not have imagined that city newsstands would almost completely disappear someday. This is from November 1979, in downtown #SyracuseNY. His name was Pete Mussi, and he was a fixture there for decades. He's holding up the afternoon paper, because at the time a city the size of Syracuse could still support two newspapers.

  4. Hey, turns out employment ad scams are nothing new. Here's a beauty from 1927 that I'm absolutely certain was a totally legitimate opportunity and probably neither murder nor multi-level marketing:

This clipping was with my father's collection of family memorabilia.

I can only assume the newspaper was from 1828, as that's the date on one item advertising comb repair.

It was the obituary that caught my eye, though. So young. I haven't looked up the name.

I will get to the alt text a bit later. Apologies.

  10. Visiting the spaces I lived in four decades ago brought back a raft of memories and feelings. In this entry, I tried to capture the feeling of the 2-1/2 years I spent working on a college institution, #SyracuseUniversity's Daily Orange.
