  1. On July 1st, I'll be presenting our work on the BogoSlov project (4euplus.eu/4EU-1150.html) at the conference "Transfer of Ideas in European Intellectual History: From Medieval Manuscripts to Interactive Online Content" held at the Institute of Slavistics of the University of Innsbruck @uniinnsbruck .

I will be presenting the four distinct approaches we take to attempt to identify #BiblicalQuotations in #OldChurchSlavonic texts. The four approaches range from established formal algorithms like regular expressions, longest common subsequence, pass through conventional computational linguistics with lemma n-grams and conclude with an approach based on sentence transformers. I will be talking of the huge list of challenges the field is facing, including the need to support standards like TEI and take full advantage of recent versions of Unicode , even though sometimes with it ambiguities remain.

Looking forward to seeing many old and new friends there!

  2. An introduction to the project BogoSlov (Biblical OriGins in slavOnic texts - Systems for Language-modelled Observation and Verification) has been published in the proceedings of the #IRCDL25 (Information and Research science Connecting to Digital and Library science) conference.

In it we describe what approaches towards quotation and allusion identification are we taking. In particular, we work on identifying references to the #Bible in #OldChurchSlavonic texts.

The paper is titled "Quotes at the Fingertips" and is freely downloadable from here:

This publication comes exactly in the days when we held a project meeting in Heidelberg, experimenting with different approaches and shaping our way ahead. It is only out third month into the project and we already have some interesting findings to share.

  3. I will also be presenting a new collaboration of 4 universities into the study of #BiblicalQuotations in #OldChurchSlavonic. We are not the first to study this complex topic. Yet, we think we can greatly improve how multidisciplinary collaboration in the field is done docs.google.com/document/d/1...

  4. Spotted this extremely unusual stylized script on some graffiti in Split, Croatia. Pretty sure the second word is in Glagolitic letters, but I can’t decipher the letters.

What does it say? And what does it mean? Any help would be much appreciated.
