  1. Again with Duolingo marking things wrong because they have an apostrophe instead of an ʻokina in their answer for this exercise!!! :blobcateyeroll: #okina #apostrophe #duolingo #duolingoFail #calendar

  2. And also #Duolingo wrongly grades “‘aina ahiahi” when using an #apostrophe instead of an #okina, in that it gets sloppy about the order of the letters!

  3. Auē! YET ANOTHER word in the #Duolingo dictionary with an apostrophe instead of an ʻokina! :blobcateyeroll: #guard #okina #apostrophe

  4. Auē! Another word in the #Duolingo dictionary with an apostrophe instead of an ʻokina! :blobcateyeroll: #dinner #okina #apostrophe

  6. I was trying to say "there are no seals in Seal Beach" -- "ʻAʻohe sila o Seal Beach" and my kumu corrected me because it came out like "ʻAʻohe sila ʻo Seal Beach." I need to get used to putting a #glide between the "a" of "sila" and the possessive "o," otherwise it becomes a name-indicator "ʻo". #speakhawaiian #olelohawaii #languages #glottalstop #okina

  10. My #1 problem trying to speak #Hawaiian is that my. Tongue. Wants. To. Put. A. Full. Glottal. Stop. Between. Every. Word. Especially when I am trying to speak clearly!!!! That is bad in Hawaiian because the glottal stop is a component of a word (or not), and you canʻt just throw them in there or you might change the meaning. #speakhawaiian #olelohawaii #languages #glottalstop #okina

  14. The oldest of all Noh masks, the Okina (old man) mask withrounded eyebrows & separated chin is different from other noh masks. It has a lower jaw attached to the main mask with a cord. The eyes are open slits, rather than sculpted eyeballs with bored holes for pupils. Okina is said to be a noh play, but not a noh play. It has no storyline. It is a sacred rite in which actors perform divine figures who dance for peace, prosperity, and safety.

  15. I've just picked up this lovely 1960s tieclip with an Okina noh mask design. The patina of the metal is really attractive.
