  4. Today marks the day when my game with #OKD is over because:

    1) I am stupid
    2) I run it on on old hardware

The most recent upgrade gave me this:

Txn Rebase on /org/projectatomic/rpmostree1/fedora_coreos failed: Sanity-checking final rootfs: bwrap(/usr/bin/true): Child process stopped by signal 0

You can try looking it up and confirm either #1, #2 or both.

Расскажу про то, как устроен мониторинг в OKD-кластерах, какие у него есть минусы и как мы их побороли, мигрируя основную функциональность на VictoriaMetrics Agent.

  6. At new workplace. They use #OpenShift. Thinking to create a #OKD cluster at home to play around with.
My main #K8S cluster will still be "normal" kubernetes though. The OKD cluster would just be to learn the differences between normal K8S and OKD/OCP

  7. I think I have an installable package for #RedHat's microshift for #openSUSE. First step on the way to maybe get #OKD's micro version micro-okd to build for openSUSE, as that is based on microshift. They do funny patching in between. Not sure if I can get that working in our offline build environment.

And soon I will try to properly package the opentelemetry collector! We already have alloy packaged, but I want to understand how the hell their buils logic is. Three repositories and a special build tool were identified so far...

  13. My #OKD upgrade history is surprisingly smooth. #OKD is an upstream #Kubernetes distribution that builds #OpenShift.

  14. The #okd project has released a version of #microshift based on OKD, so of course I had to try it out.

For those not familiar with it, OKD is a kubernetes distribution and is the "upstream" of RedHat's OpenShift.

Here is a single-VM vagrant-libvirt setup that installs, configures and starts the Kubernetes cluster using #Ansible.

  19. Attention, #okd people, the let's encrypt renewal process has failed in docs.okd.io ...

  20. Got #persistentVolume and #ImageRegistry working on my #OKD so yay.
By far, server-world.info has the style of documentation and walkthroughs that most closely match my mounds of notes and such. No useless side journeys, just actual results.

  21. Personally, I'm an OpenShift fan and user as it provides a great experience OOTB. Due to its intended audience it is a bit larger than the rest with a lot of batteries included. However, the installation process is quite simple; you just need to have the necessary hardware available.

    Recommended minimums:
    - Control plane: 4 vCPUs, 16GB RAM
    - Worker node: 2 vCPUs, 8GB RAM

OpenShift is a paid product, but the sibling community project () is what I run in my homelab.

  22. I have a situation where #okd is missing some network adapters. I can create them manually, but...why are they missing in the first place? Shouldn't okd to managing these?

  23. New instance means a new #introduction, right 😎

I have been working in IT for more than 25 years and have been using #FOSS and #Linux for just as long. Even though I originally come from a programming background (#Java, #perl), today as #CTO I mainly deal with #DevOps and especially #GitOps. We run the majority of our operational infrastructure on #proxmox as a virtualisation base and use #OKD for our #kubernetes clusters.

  26. @jpmens Thanks for that link. I installed OKD (upstream OpenShift) the other day and you can install AWX from the WebUI. I threw the installation away because the 6 VMs (3 masters, 3 workers) took way too much power doing nothing but running itself. For my simple use case, a VM + rpm (or container) is way more cost efficient and better for the environment.

  27. And @ThomasCameron512 is up next with a primer on #OKD on bare metal. #txlf #txlf24

Thomas is one of my favorite speakers!

  28. Brrrr. Had to have a colleague install an okd cluster. It's *fresh* installed. 3 worker nodes, 3 control-plane/master nodes. And heck, wtf. It already runs 185pods, uses 24G RAM and 164G on disk space.
    For what?

Nothing. Basically, nothing. This is just its own install, the pods it needs for itself. Anything one actually wants to do now adds on top of this. (I'm sure any other "kubernetes distribution" is very similar).

Sure, installing stuff on baremetal needs some space. Running VMs on top then needs some space. And to come down to the same, docker container also need a bit of stuff installed.
But the amount here *seems* like overly much.

That is, for anyone not the size of Google/Amazon.

Unfortunately, them are those who want to copy the big ones - just usually without the large IT teams and budgets behind... Even though about everything people want to do could be solved with *much* simpler and easier to understand (and operate) tech stacks.

  31. Hey all new Mastodon folks! #introduction post time

I'm an <insert_buzzword> engineer from #CLE, OH. I'm currently employed at a Fortune 100 corporation.

Mastodon.land was an evening #homelab project and is hosted on a #Talos #K8s cluster for the nerds that care. It was formerly hosted on #OKD.

I am really into #boardgames, play video games regularly, code, drink #whiskey, obsess over all things #tech in and out of my homelab, and smoke meats for my friends and family.

    I'm a married man with two #kitties, a few outdoor #grilling devices, an #offset #smoker, and a #Ford #F350 diesel.

Despite the diesel truck, I also drive a #hybrid car and have a 100% offset #solar system attached to my house. Mastodon.land is powered by the sun!
