Red Sands #OHV area, east of White Sands, 20 miles south of #Alamogordo. There are over 100 miles of trail, with one major race per year, the Tarantula 100 (usually held in February). BLM manages the site. They allow primitive camping throughout.

CW: Off-highway vehicles on city roads
The city of #DemingNM will allow off-highway vehicles on city roads. On its second try, the Deming City Council passed an ordinance tonight. It came down to a tie broken by Mayor Benny Jasso.
As recently as 2018, the city opposed this, but has done a 180 as enthusiasm grows.
But a retired police chief who is now on the council was having none of it.

The #Alberta government is giving $8 million to off-highway #vehicle groups for trails – including new #trail building – in the #foothills of the #Rockies and elsewhere across the province.
This extremely damaging activity should be discouraged, not encouraged. And the #environmental impacts already caused should be remediated, not amplified.
