For a change of pace, today I dug out the #OGXBox my friend gave me because her ex left it. This isn't the one I bought off the back of a minivan at SPAC. This is the Ex Box.
I figured I'd check the clock capacitor on this one and... it was leaky! It kept turning off, so I cleaned it up and soldered some magnet wire and now it seems to stay on! Just traces A-D seem to be enough! For now!
I also soft modded it! Apparently we can do that now! Neat!

Yesterday I picked up an original Xbox! I'll be honest, I don't know that much about these machines, so I am definitely looking for advice on how to get started with this bad boy, especially in terms of maintenance and care! If you've got any tips, I'd love to hear!
It came with about 15 games (only half were sports!), a memory card and two Logitech Xbox Cordless Precision Controllers with their receivers -- which was great for me, since I was going to buy those controllers myself anyway, and they're not exactly cheap.
It's a 1.4 revision, and at a glance it seems to be in very good condition - it was bought and owned by an adult when it came out and hasn't been used since, it's just sat in a box. But I know capacitors can leak and other things can go bad, so I'll be looking into what I've gotta do to keep it alive.
I'm probably not interested in modding this system (unless I can softmod it with a memory card or something like a PS2). If I want to mod one, I'll buy a second one, but I like having at least one stock version of a console.
