Antonio Padrón's painting can be defined as expressionist. He defined himself as an "expressionist without tears" so as not to be placed within any of the three currents in which this movement is usually classified: social realism, fauvism and psychological expressionism. Padrón's work has characteristics of some or all of these currents but is not clearly attached to any of them✍️

He is linked to expressionism because of his taste for the popular, the interpretation he makes of myths, customs and Gran Canarian folklore in his paintings. In addition, the memory and appreciation of native primitive art developed by the artists of the Luján Pérez School (Plácido Fleitas, Jorge Oramas, Felo Monzón, Jesús Arencibia...), discovered the rich pictorial heritage that Gran Canaria offered.✍️

He was born on the island Hierro, the first of december, 1946, at El Golfo, belonging to the municipality of Frontera of the province of Tenerife, Canary Islands. He began to study in 1950 in Valverde. A year later his family moved to Vegueta in the city of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria where he continued studying until he completed his elemental schooling. At the age of 16 he enlisted voluntarily in the army✍️
