#OdysseyOpera’s production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s #opera The Last Savage is praised in Opera’s June 2026 issue, “For the Odyssey Opera presentation, partnering with @bmop… The cast was uniformly excellent… The fine Odyssey chorus wore multiple hats — singing wonderfully, arranging props and taking on many bit parts. The conductor Gil Rose led a spirited, committed performance of this delightful operatic gem.”

At The Arts Fuse, Aaron Keebaugh praises “Odyssey Opera’s recent staging, in collaboration with @bmop, of Menotti’s The Last Savage at the Huntington Avenue Theatre [as] a reminder of why the composer struck such a popular chord during the 20th century… #OdysseyOpera’s fine cast of singers delivered all the moments of lampoon with striking appeal… All told, The Last Savage delivered good tunes, a delightfully twisted story, and all-around cheer.” • https://artsfuse.org/326192/opera-review-odyssey-operas-the-last-savage-finds-wit-and-warmth-in-menottis-madcap-satire/

Kevin Wells gives five of five stars at Bachtrack. “ #OdysseyOpera’s production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s 1963 opera The Last Savage convincingly makes the case that its time has come,” he acclaims. “Singers and action were front and center and, thanks to universally clear diction, made the supertitles superfluous… Odyssey’s cast of stalwarts, including the chorus and choristers who took on solo parts, colorfully embodied their characters. ★★★★★” • https://bachtrack.com/review-menotti-last-savage-odyssey-opera-boston-march-2026

Reviewer Lee Eiseman praises #OdysseyOpera’s production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Last Savage in The Boston Musical Intelligencer, writing, “Every word came across in the dry, speech-friendly theater… Gil Rose considerately presided over a company of singers with comic and vocal genius and players who can make any composer sound great. They have shown doubters that Menotti is now an unabashed rather than a guilty pleasure.” • https://classical-scene.com/2026/03/14/menotti-skewers/
