@spacepup Sadly, yes. After coming to the realization that everything about Windows that I was taught over the past 41 years has been a fully bold-faced lie with no accountability from the idiots at the top of the food chain: #Microsoft ! #Orca tears #Narrator's ass apart in #GNULinux on the #Gnome or #Mate desktops! Just installed #Fenrir (per console speech at a silent TTY terminal/Grub). Then #Gemini recently told me about a #Rust -y screen reader called #Odilia . It describes #Odilia as the #NVDA of #GNULinux ! As per installed media players, I grabbed #Audacious and - without telling anyone - ... #FooBar2k -ed its keystrokes like I had in Windows for the longest time? I'll be damned - it's actually - working? Don't know if you saw that I boycotted all of #Microsoft 's 'standard' 2 sample rates and told them to #DuckOffAndDie ! Don't let me adjust the #Quantum size per individual applications, let 'lone the system... -

I've been lurking on the
#Odilia Dev Discord server and just watching people chat. It looks like we are about six months away from an addition of Odilia which is stable enough for end users. For right now, the Odilia team is calling for more devs and testers to run this thing and provide feedback. There is no current binary, but If you are a dev orr are a Linux user who is in a position to run a screen reader which is tester ready but not end user ready, I'm sure Odilia would welcome your feedbac. And so would the Mastodon community of screen reader users who do not have the setups or the knowledge to run or test this screen reader. This page describes the current capabilities of Odilia:
https://odilia.app/news/release_0-1-0/And here's a link to Odilia's community page, including Discord server info.
https://odilia.app/community/Odilia can be run by installing the package available for Arch Linux. Or you can git clone their repository and compile your own binary from source. Here's the installation documentation:

@storm awesome! glad you have it working! if you want, join #odilia:libera.chat on irc or the #odilia:stealthy.club space on matrix, and tell us how it's going for you!
I know we don't have a lot of features, most things actually, but this seemned stable enough that we can release it without going into cronic disappointment for a rushed release mode. -
it's odilia, the odilia screenreader! finally, the long awaited by some, version 0.1.0 is out, it has been for afew hours now, but as they say, the news are only old if you heard them at least once, so for most people they should be fresh. If you want to check it out, feel free to do so, dropping bug reports as you find them, never hesitate to pop things in that issue tracker, or come talk to us in our matrix space, #odilia:stealthy.club, or irc, #odilia:libera.chat, #odilia-oftopic:libera.chat and #odilia-dev:libera.chat
the releace announcement can be found at https://odilia.app/news/release_0-1-0/
finally, we're here! A big thank you to the community who waited patiently for this release, as well as everyone who contributed, in one way or another, to the project's growth, we're here, we hear you, and we'll never forget our community! let's show the world it can indeed be done, make linux great again!

@cambridgeport90 what about arch? how does that compare to that? I'm using arch to develop odilia btw, I made sure it had nothing arch specific, but compilation may fail on older versions of ubuntu with speech-dispatcher<0.10 anyway. So yeah, if you decide to run it, send me a dm or something to see how it goes. Also, if you want to test it more and share results with all of the devs, consider joining #odilia-screen-reader:matrix.org, where everything development happens.
