My daughter has owned the #book "The #Octonauts Explore The Great Big Ocean" by #Meomi for more than a year. I've read it to her many times, but only today noticed "Dashi dog" is holding a 5.25-inch floppy disk & using a #Commodore 1541 floppy disk drive. The same kind of drive I owned in 1983. The font on the screen and the "READY." prompt are like those of Commodore computers, too. I've enjoyed the illustrations in the book, but now I appreciate them even more.

#Octonauts discourse: What is the logic behind the clothes? Most of them just wear a little collar and a belt. Dashi wears a skirt, but since Tweak doesn't I assume that's just a personal choice rather than the artist's attempt to indicate femininity.

But why is the polar bear, of all people, wearing a full suit of clothes? I need an explanation.

We're invited to a 5 yo birthday soon, and the child in question really likes the #Octonauts. So I figured I'd put a couple of my #maker skills to use (#3DPrinting and #electronics) and make them an Octowatch.

Made a simple LED flasher circuit and designed a small housing for it and it turned out fairly well. The flashing lights can be turned on/off for when there's an Octo-alarm (no sound, for the sanity if the parents). Might upload the stls and circuit diagram later.

For my Blue Planet class (GEO 160, essentially an oceanography class), I offered extra credit for making class memes. This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. My daily 'Creature Feature' has been outed as an Octonauts ripoff.
