The second part of the Russian Revolution happened in what we now call November because Russia didn't switch to the current ‘Gregorian’ calendar system until after the revolution.

#Anarchists tend to be very good at seeing the flaws in the logic and futility of the hopes of the previous two groups, but they are just as bereft of ideas for how to stop what’s coming.

And there is yet another similarity: the #fascist movement in #Italy with its #BlackShirts came into existence b/c the #Italian landed gentry and industrialists were afraid of losing their property to the plebs, like their #Russian counterparts in the #OctoberRevolution of 1918.

#Russia adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1918 as part of #Lenin's modernisation drive. 13 days were dropped, which famously meant that the #OctoberRevolution now fell in #November.

On Nov. 7, 1917, Bolshevik Red Guards under the command of the Revolutionary Military Committee seized power in Petrograd, then the capital of the Russian Empire, by capturing key government positions and laying siege to the Winter Palace.
