  4. There's got to be something occult about the fact this announcement features the third Dave of the event... But we're super excited to welcome Dave Jeffery to the crew, bringing with him a side-helping of occult detective fiction chops - yes, the prolific horror writer also dabbles in occult detectives! - as he chats with Dave Brzeski.

  9. Curious about open secrets, not deeply occult. If the Dao encompasses everything, weren’t the Hermits its greatest devotees?

  10. The Dark Angel, a collection of early 1930s tales by Seabury Quinn from Weird Tales featuring occult detective Jules de Grandin. Somewhat salacious, very pulpy, very enjoyable. Includes the short novel The Devil’s Bride.

  15. J. U. Giesy and Junius B. Smith The House of Invisible Bondage, serialised in 1926, features another case for occult detective Semi Dual. He comes across like some kind of medieval wizard transported to the 1920s. Great fun.

  16. Thorp McClusky’s Loot of the Vampire is a 1936 vampire novel in a contemporary big-city setting. There's also mind-reading. Belongs to the short-lived but interesting 1930s weird detective story genre. It's not great, but enjoyable enough.

  17. I love occult detective stories. Aleister Crowley’s Simon Iff stories belong to this genre but with a distinctive flavour all their own. Nothing supernatural or paranormal here but Iff uses Crowley's philosophy to solve crimes. Offbeat but fun.
