1981 Canada pressingWhile I was at my local shop this morning, a gentleman came in to sell about 30 of his records.
I ended up buying ALMOST all of them.Along with the No New York compilation I posted earlier, it was all made up of #obscure #nowave , #punk , #postpunk , #newwave , #synthpop , and #experimental #artrock from the late #70s and early #80s .
This was one that I was very excited about. I’ve never owned a CLEAN original Tin Drum on vinyl before, and I’m SIKED.
I’m a big fan of Japan (and of David Sylvian) in general, and Tim Drum was the first album by Japan I ever heard.
I was so mystified by it, that I instantly set off on finding others, which lead me to working backwards towards Adolescent Sex, Obscure Alternatives, Quiet Life and Gentlemen Take Polaroids.“Ghosts” is an incredible tune. It still gives me goosebumps.

42 years ago today, June 23, 1984, Kimberly Springs debuted at #75 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Slow Dancin’”. It went on to peak at #49 and spent a total of 10 weeks on the chart.
They played this song a lot on KYAK, so often that I thought it was a bigger hit. It’s one of my all-time favorites!

Okay, I bought this tape for $4.44 (see price advertised on the J-Card) at the Modesto, California location of Record Factory (the long-gone and sorely-missed Northern California record store chain), some time in summer 1984. Knowing nothing about the band, I was captivated by the punky graphics and bad-boy band photo, with those serious scowls. Child Support: suitably edgy band name, from the decidedly unpunk suburb of Fair Oaks.
Music-wise it was kinda punk-infused 1983 rock with occasional fast bits and some slick, commercial impulses that probably won out in the end. I'd compare them to NYC's Kraut, in that they were rockers at heart, punkers by circumstance. At the time I was fixated on X, Black Flag, Germs - and this tape sat uncomfortably alongside theirs.
By sheer unknowing luck I managed to find the best song on SoundCloud this week (posted by one of the guys in the picture), and gave it a listen for the first time in, er - 42 years? #1980s #DemoTapes #Obscure #Punk #Tapes

I'm going to the ethnic markets tomorrow. (Think Chinese, Indian and Mexican.) What things, that I can't get in conventional super markets, should I pick up for my cocktail and soap/oinments/tincture hobbies? Things like tamarind (which I'll obviously get, since I learned about it a few years ago).

A friend of mine knows that I adore weird, #obscure #80s #indie #synth #goth #postpunk #newwave albums, & found this in a used bin & gifted it to me.
This is an OUTSTANDING record.
Sometimes pastoral indie/alternative, sometimes weird, artsy synth/new wave. VERY catchy songs & a great overall SOUND & production value over the entire record.
A handful of singles & studio records over five short years of existence, im now on a mission to find more from this Dutch band.
This is definitely love at first listen.
“Heaven” and “Into The Light” are both just excellent. And for those of you still in the festive #christmas spirit, there’s the very NON-Christmas sounding “Xmas Never Comes”.
What a killer band with killer tunes.
Only this Dutch pressing exists as far as vinyl goes.
