  1. #NZPol #NZTwits poll
When Chris Luxon says his govt has been given a mandate to reverse #NewZealand Smoke-Free legislation were you aware of the NZ National Party campaigning on this action prior to the #NZVotes23 election?

  2. Official and final results are out for the New Zealand election #NZVotes23 electionresults.govt.nz/electi As expected the right wing parties National and ACT lose their election night majority and the increasingly eccentric nationalist party New Zealand First will be brought into a 3-way government. #NZGreens get their best ever result but will not wield power after a weak performance by their preferred partner, the Labour party. #NZPol

  3. Graeme Edgeler, who has been good at this for a few elections now, has projected what the final #NZVotes23 results might be once all votes are counted: publicaddress.net/legalbeagle/ National to lose 2 seats, Labour to gain 1, and the overhang to disappear giving a 120 seat parliament. After an almost certain National win in the Port Waikato by-election (called because of the death of a candidate just before polling) that would leave NAct at 60/121 and needing NZ First support to govern. #NZPol

  4. Welly now indisputably the progressive left epicentre of Aotearoa. AKA “Das Kapital”. 🤣

Seriously, turning the Labour bastions of Rongotai & Wellington Central Green is incredible. And often it becomes very hard to dislodge such MPs.

  5. @jsr
No one’s prepared to say it but everyone knows Labour lost the #NZVotes23 election for daring to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Racism won the election for the right. #NZPol

  6. With about 30% of votes counted, #NZVotes23 looking like a very strong victory for the right, as predicted by (most) polls. Big thing to watch for from now is whether the right need the economically centrist but virulently anti- immigrant party New Zealand First to reach a majority, or conversely whether NZ First fall below the 5% threshold to enter parliament (currently just above) #nzpol

  7. Huge #NZGreens result looking possible in #WellingtonCentral : with 19% counted Tamatha Paul doubling the vote of the 2nd place Labour (incumbent party) candidate Ibrahim Omer. electionresults.govt.nz/electo #NZPol #NZVotes23

  8. Big day for democracy in this corner of the world with the #NZVotes23 general election and #Yes23 referendum in Australia. I voted from overseas for the NZ election, and I don't think such votes get counted till after election night, so don't forget to wait for all the votes to be counted before you consider the election results finalised! #nzpol

  9. CW: NZPol

    @paulhellyer
Absolutely., I've enjoyed taking the #NZVotes23 campaign ride with you all.
Here's hoping wet and whinny Luxon is unhappy with the outcome.

  10. @sister_ratched @ClareBear
    This:
    Canberra, unceded Ngunnawal/Ngambri country.

Thinking of you and #AusPol for your #Voice vote on Saturday. Both countries have an opportunity to heal with their decision.
    #NZPol #NZVotes23

  11. Latest Guardian Essential poll (conducted 4-8 Oct).
Labour gets a 3% plus boost BUT NZF overtakes ACT as the 2nd ranked party of the right.
Can Hipkins get a further kick in the last few days to prevent a NACT-NZF Coalition gvt?
    #nzpol #NZVotes23

  12. Have voted (from overseas) in the NZ general election #NZVotes23 Go the Greens!

  13. Faced with his first real leadership decision (ie prospect of NZF in Gvt) - Luxon panics and falters badly.

And he’s not even in gvt yet.

Business is no preparation for politics. Luxon is nothing but a verbose fraud endlessly talking in corporate jargon.

    #NZVotes23 #nzpol

  14. CW: NZPol - optimism post

    @pezmico

The #NZVotes23 election is far from decided. The wheels have fallen off Luxon's landing gear and the very short runway is making him panic and doubt his ability to land a govt. Any idea that National, NZ First and Act will be a strong and stable coalition has been absolutely shattered, largely by Luxon's own incompetence and lack of political experience. #NZPol

  15. The Peters factor/coalition of chaos/2nd election narrative I believe is cutting through.
But does this give Labour a remote chance of clawing back some votes - enough to eke out the tiniest of majorities?

  16. CW: NZ politics.

@jackyan @jamesfluker As a former Wellington Central voter for many years I still take a keen interest in the electorate. For Wellington Central #NZTwits voters. This is the three candidates who are polling within a few points of each other on Active a couple of weeks ago. I still can't understand National opposing #3Waters considering water infrastructure is the Nat candidate's main concern.

  17. There's a definite scent of MAGA bluster in the denial of facts in this wonderful adaptation of "The Minister and the Briscoes Lady" from the Johnsonville Amateur Dramatics Society.

  18. The reality of a National-ACT-NZF Gvt will be ~

    Constant leaking & undermining
    Stalled legislative agenda
    Amended policy on the hoof
    Contradictory messaging.

And there’s nothing in Luxon’s history or makeup to suggest he has the ability or inclination to manage this. He’s a command & control leader not a collaborator.

  19. CW: NZ politics.

@jackyan @sidawson US based global RW organisation the Atlas Network have been very active in #NZPol and #NZVotes23 The TPU and #NewZealand Initiative are both members of the global far right network.

  20. Are we looking at a late swing back to Labour?

Prospect of Peters in Gvt + the holes in Nats tax package and general economic policy are driving this.

    #nzpol #NZVotes23

  21. OK #NZTwits
What do you think NZ National cutting $2.5B from the WINZ budget over the next 4 years to help fund tax cuts for well off NZers will do for #NewZealand crime rate and social cohesion?
    #NZPol #NZVotes23

BTW, my advice is vote for someone worse off than yourself.

  22. @fmacskasy @ArrestJK

Nicola Willis beats up on herself.

RNZ: So these policy statements from Labour, are they wrong?

NW: They are a complete beat up.

RNZ: When you say beat up it doesn't mean wrong.

NW: Yes it is wrong to say it's a scam and it's a lie... (starts Nats sales pitch).

RNZ: So you're saying only 3,000 households will receive $250 per fortnight tax relief is correct? Only 3k households would receive the full fortnight tax cut?

    NW: Yes, that's right.

    #NZPol #NZVotes23

  23. You know the state of NZ politics is truly weird/other planetary when Winston Peters/NZF may well act as a desirable handbrake on some of the craziest of ACT policies within a tripartite rightwing coalition gvt.

  24. Was good to see #BHN @Former_Child_Star pick up on this shocker of an interview from Chris Luxon with Julian Wilcox on the Hui.

This interview and particularly this highlighted part re; Māori inequality clearly displays Luxon's ignorance and disdain for #Māori and #NewZealand The guy is a fraud. #NZPol #NZVotes23

    youtube.com/watch?v=pDkwrkc2R3

  25. Voted this morning for my electorate MP (Labour) who is an incredibly hard working MP and has delivered a lot for the area in past 3 years.
    +
Greens for party vote. The party with the best policy agenda for climate action and equality.

    #nzpol #NZVotes23

  26. This is a really interesting extended interview that's probably important for all #NZTwits to watch, particularly in light of the recent #Māori bashing and upcoming #NZVotes23 election.

Clearly Māori and many settlers were cheated by breaches of te tiriti o Waitangi and fraud. It's in everyone's interest to honour te tiriti. Kaitiakitanga serves to protect our collective future.
But #NewZealand needs to know its history to understand its present and future.

    youtube.com/watch?v=0tKUIZRY4y

  27. @ArrestJK Green or Labour supporters in RW electorates need to give their respective party vote to the party they support but the electorate candidate is better given to the person with a chance to win that poses the least societal and environmental harm. In Epsom no Lab or Green candidate stands a chance. #VoteGoldsmith #Epsom #NZVotes23 #NZPol

  28. @paulhellyer @ClareBear
The absolute ugly vitriol, racism and hate being spewed by the supporters, emboldened by encouragement from the Coalition of Cookers' party leaders is a stain on #Aotearoa #NewZealand #NZPol #VoteLeft #NZVotes23

  29. I'm watching this wonderful insight into the NZ Greens political party. #CrazyBloodyGreens shot during and post the 2020 NZ election. I highly recommend this to #NZTwits to view and understand if you really want change then vote for a real change for good party.

  30. CW: NZPol: TVNZ Vote Compass experiment

As an experiment I returned to #TVNZ Vote Compass and answered the questions as a wealthy extreme far right racist who hates everything #Woke.
This was their #NZPol voting recommendation.

  31. CW: NZPol: Luxon pleads the Fifth in interview

For anyone who hasn't seen this Jack Tame interview of Chris Luxon. Warning, it's a train wreck.
Once again I find myself torn between relief that this man is a moron and panic that this man is a moron. Either way #ThisManIsAMoron

  32. CW: NZPol The options are black & white

The black & white contrast between NZLabour, Greens and te Pāti Māori target improving the lives, health and welfare for all NZers as National and ACT target improving the obscene profits and comfort of the wealthy elite both domestic and foreign. #NZTwits vote in your own and community interests.
    #NZPol #NZVotes23 #NZVotes2023

  33. @CraigKendrickNZ Much of New Zealand’s land is purchased through foreign money laundering. There’s over 40,000 ghost houses in Auckland. That’s properties purchased to hide $ so remain uninhabited. This is a crime. #NZPol #NZVotes23 Always follow the $ #NACT

  34. @ArrestJK

The policy is dead in the water.
The policy is a dead duck.
How long until National try to salvage it and sell it back to NZ voters as Peking Duck?
