NZ music month day 13, and my recommendation is “Drive”, released in March by Bridges:
It has road trip vibes, could be a good one for the car playlist.

NZ music month day 12, and my song of the day is from Bic Runga, who has been NZ music royalty since the mid 90’s.
In February she released a new album “Red Sunset”. My pick from the album is “Escape from planet Earth”, because it sums up the mood these days:

Day 11 of NZ music month is a deep cut. The band Svelte recorded an album in 1995 called Cape Honey. I never knew of them back then, but was gifted the album later on, and went to their reunion / farewell in 2001.
My favourite of their songs is Exhale. I like the way it builds.
Andrew Bain and Steve Wells went on to join Fur Patrol.

Happy Mother’s Day!
10th of May is a throwback to the charity song done by the Flight of the Conchords in honour of their recent touring. The song itself is fun, but for the full effect I recommend watching the whole video:

It’s the 8th of May, and a bunch of new music was released today!
My pick of the bunch is two new songs from Gin Wigmore! It has been a while since she released new material, although of course we’ve heard her on every AirNZ flight in the past 10 years :)

NZ music month day 7 gives us the release of the new Silcrow song “Unclean”:
It’s a much louder rock song than my previous shares… turn the volume down or you might scare the cats!

NZ Music Month day 6:
Today’s recommendation is Autumn by local Wellington singer Emma Kate, which was released late last month:

With comparisons to Taylor Swift in at least two reviews, I’m sure you’ll like her music!

NZ Music Month day 4 (May the 4th be with you!)
Today’s NZ music discovery is Parallel Park, a band from Whakatū Nelson.
Their single Empty House was just released on Friday - I think it’s a pretty great listen!

NZ music month day 2: Vera Ellen has released her new album Heaven Knows What Time, and it contains her recent single When it’s Over, which I really like:

Check out the whole album - I’ve listened to it a couple of times, and there’s some great new tracks on there!

Speaking of new Aotearoa music, this _very_ Kiwi song has been stuck in my head the past few days:
https://youtu.be/7ojKuRPZiZk?si=0oh_E7x2w7om7YG9
Yeah Nah Yeah by Capricore
You should listen to it, and then curse my name for the next few days while it lives rent free in your head.

Welcome to NZ Music Month!
"This year’s theme, Our Sounds, Our Spaces, celebrates our music and all the places it is made and enjoyed across Aotearoa; from incredible local live music venues and community halls to schools, libraries, marae, public parks, town squares, all ages spaces and more. NZ Music Month 2026 shines a light on the unique environments that bring music to life throughout the motu"
