The NZ Herald website maintainers need to work on SEO for back issues of NZ Listener magazine (presuming it's still hosted there, as WP says it is). I just tried a web search using the magazine's name, and the title of the cover article for an issue I had in my hand. Tried a couple of different search portals, no dice.
If there's 1 thing we've learned about the online media business, it's that people don't pay for media they don't know about.

Mike Sabin has come a long way since his MethCon days (and a con it certainly was);
But he's still stuck in a 20th century paradigm where there is a single 'just say no' approach to "drugs", as a general category. One that nobody would accept if it included 3 of the most dangerous recreational drugs; alcohol, tobacco and pharmaceutical opioids.

The 16 Oct edition of The Elephant covered the controversy over allowing under-14s in contact sports;
When you get to the Mum justifying the regular knocks to the head her son's sport involves, I want you to imagine that she's talking about letting the same under-14 year old son drink alcohol. Would those same rationalisations and whattaboutisms fly in that case?

"After getting down to 24 months' jail, he noted Temple's risk of reoffending was low, and the wishes of the victim's family, who didn't want to see him jailed.
Labelling the circumstances of the case as "highly unusual", he converted the sentence to 12 months' home detention."

Next time you run across someone from the 'everyone has ADHD these days' chorus, consider giving them a link to this episode of The Elephant podcast about ADHD. Worth a listen;

How could the global financial instability affect plans for NatACT First's imminent budget?
"They may have to relax their fiscal constraints and allow a bit more government money into the economy ... They're wary of borrowing more to do that. But then you'd have to look at it in a context ... where probably governments around the world are having to do this sort of thing."

"Myself, Chloe from the Greens, and Louisa Wall, from Labour at the time, set up NZ Parliament's first cross-party mental health group. And I really want to make some enduring changes that will go past the 3-year Parliamentary cycle."

Great news for ADHDers in Aotearoa;
"Pharmac is now funding a new medicine and has removed renewal criteria for ADHD treatments."
Until recently, people taking ADHD medication have had to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars every 2 years for a medication review. Pharmac is now trusting GPs to do this for their patients, saving hundreds of hours of psychiatrists' time every year.

A very nicely and sensitively done report by Michael Morrah https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/530667/tony-knott-s-death-in-middlemore-hospital-s-emergency-department-waiting-room-was-preventable-family-says Sadly, since that event in 2021 #EmergencyDepartment overcrowding has got worse throughout #NewZealand. While more $ are part of the solution, we also need more innovation. #RNZ #NZHerald

"[Nicola] Willis says she's not an austerity minister, but cutting taxes, holding down wages and slashing government spending are austerity measures. There is no evidence they will reduce the wage gap: Australia is doing the reverse, which is why people are going there.
Britain, meanwhile, has spent 14 years doing very much what Willis has introduced. The result: Gross National Income per capita is on track to be eclipsed by Poland within about 10 years."
