The “Commie Corridor” may be a particular stretch of Brooklyn and Queens, but most of what this article describes isn’t peculiar to New York. High rents, younger people getting priced out, frustration with both parties, workplaces and neighborhood hangouts becoming political meeting places, people finding one another and realizing they can act together—versions of this are happening all over the country.
The Corridor may have had especially good conditions for it to catch fire, and DSA was already there to help organize it. But the fuel is everywhere. We are beginning to see other places producing their own versions of this emerging poltical culture—some of them yielding victories as surprising as were those in New York.
