#TokenTuesday: #ObjectSpotlight on this unusual #1970s #NYCSubway "Y" cut token from the #NYTMCollection. The "Y" on these classic tokens was supposed to be cut out between the letters "N" and "C" to spell out "NYC." The second photo shows a standard "Y" cut token.

What the...?! Have you ever seen a two-digit route designation on an #NYCsubway car?
At present, numbered train lines run from 1 to 7. Though both an 8 and a 9 train did exist (and some routes used even higher numbers on the BMT pre-1967), this purple number 11 bullet is something else entirely. -

#TokenTuesday: The Five Boroughs Token debuted in 1995 and was the last token to be used in the #NYCsubway. A fare increase to $1.50 ushered in the new token which featured a pentagonal hole at the center to symbolize the five boroughs of #NYC.

#TodayInHistory: #OnThisDay in 2012, arguably the biggest quirk of the #NYCsubway system was resolved when an uptown transfer finally opened between the 6 train at Bleecker Street station and the B/D/F/M trains at Broadway–Lafayette Street station. The uptown transfer was completed in 2012.
