Driving on side streets in Gary means watching for downed power lines that have enough clearance for one car to pass by at a time. This video was from yesterday on the west side.
Power is still out in many places in Northwest Indiana. Power has come on in other places.
Crews are still working on restoring power.
The destruction is like having a hurricane roar through the Midwest.

Miller has always been a pretty cool part of Gary with fun food places to go along with nice Lake Michigan beaches.
-
High velocity storm this afternoon.
I hear the alarm tone from the weather radio, but I can't make out the alert in the basement.
-
I used to never have to go into the basement much, but the storms the last couple of years have become more powerful and destructive.

My oldest son brought hamburgers home from Koney King the other day.
They were tasty.
I told him about Chuck Wheeler's hot dog stand that has been around since the 1950s, so he's interested in checking it out sometime.

There's a severe thunderstorm warning for my area. The weather radio just sounded the alarm a few minutes ago. The weather is out to the west in NE Illinois in a line from Chicago southwest to the southern burbs and exurbs.
It seems like we are getting a lot more thunderstorms this season.

I stopped by Ta Canijo (slang for "Difficult Situation" according to their website) in the truck stop in Sauk Village on 394 on the way back from O'Hare to grab a huge burrito to bring back to share with my son.
This is the place I spotted the other day when I stopped in to get a fountain drink and a pizza slice.

This must be a ticket day in Indiana. I saw police out in force in Merrillville and Valparaiso today.
Here's a new Indiana State Police Mustang in Merrillville at a traffic stop.

This lone, absurdly low basketball hoop -- on a very sparsely populated street on Gary's outskirts -- makes me happy and sad at the same time #photography #nwindiana

I like Gary Public Transportation's Cycle 219 program. I learned about it looking at the South Shore map yesterday when I took the kids to the Gary Air Show.
$25 annual pass for unlimited 30-minute bike rides is a great deal.
-
Some scenes from the Gary Air Show 2025 in Miller Beach.
I always have fun at this air show because it is local, and everyone is always in a great mood.

A Progress Pride Flag welcomes visitors to Crown Point.
It's always nice to see it.
The video is from earlier this summer, but the flag is still there.
-
A new bike path is coming together in Crown Point. If I wanted, I can follow this and end up at the border monument at the state line plaza and continue onward to the Chicago Lakefront.

I took my oldest son out to breakfast yesterday and to Triple XXX Family Restaurant in West Lafayette this weekend, so I took my youngest one out for lunch at the Mancino's in Lansing, Illinois.
There used to be one in Valpo not far from VU back in the 1990s, but this is the closest one to Northwest Indiana now.
We got in right before the lunch rush to enjoy some tasty food. I had the half Italian grinder sandwich.
