Too much imagination? It's stupidly early, and yet we're noticing two nuthatches come to our feeders and leave with food. Always flying away in the same direction, leftwards.

A red-breasted nuthatch gives me the "sup?". A black-capped chickadee looks like it's posing for the photo. A red-winged blackbird looks scrungly. And a dark-eyed junco eyes its next seed delivery.

Help me…I need to find a support group for Woodworking Anonymous. I CANNOT STOP making these wild #songbird Nesting Boxes. This one is for #Chickadees, #Wrens or #Nuthatches and is being donated to my firefighter neighbor across the street for his forested yard.

This one is made of Cedar, which is crap wood for this, way too soft, my previous boxes were redwood.

All kidding aside, making these is a great #distraction from the chaos that is each day now.

Frankfurt airport nuthatches (sitelles).

I was stranded in Frankfurt for 2 days in July. Did you know this airport has ponds and hiking trails??? And wildlife, including nuthatches (lifers!)?

Question for anyone who may know: Are the #Fires in #Canada impacting small #bird #migration to #Alaska this spring?

My parents live on a lake in #MatSu Valley. Swans and other big birds came in, but no smaller birds, no #Nuthatches or #Chickadees, or even a #Robin. Is it the late spring, or smoke from a distant fire? In NJ we had our first #Robin in February. My folks are very sad! #BirdWatching is their jam!

After a summery weekend, we got snow flurries today. The garden is waking up everywhere but things still feel odd because there are no nesting #Bluebirds. I have decided to pull the nest today, since there is no sign of any nesting activity. Interestingly enough, a male and a female BB have showed up. When nothing much is going on, there’s still some activity apart from the MoDos. There’s two kinds of #Nuthatches - the very human-friendly teensy Redbreasted and the more shy but equally diligent Whitebreasted. You can tell male and females apart by the color of the broad center stripe on their head. Males have a jet-black one, females more grey.

Happy #NationalBirdDay! I hope you all got to watch some of our wonderful feathered friends today and got entertained by their antics. It has been another quiet day in my yard and I wonder if the #Nuthatches, of which there is a good little number, are happy they get to collect and cache so much stuff without any competition.
