Monthly and all-time records were set today in Atlantic Canada, just above 35°C at Terra Nova Natl Park and Saint John airport (both all-time record highs). Chevery, QC also jumped to all-time high of 32.7° (data since 1990s) with the afternoon windshift.

Our first #NovaScotia heatwave is set to creep in over today & begin tomorrow in earnest. The main objective is to keep the house as cool as possible each night, and the main stumbling block is the fact that it's only forecast to go down to 19C overnight. 😬
Our tools: one lone heat pump (in the dining room), lots of windows equipped with blinds, two very powerful room fans.

The pressure systems here, for 3:00 AM AST Sat Dec 24, are something else. Out here in #Halifax we'll feel it mostly as wind (gusts to 100 km/h (54 kt)) and rain, but Southern Ontario is going to get a walloping of snow.
The other interesting part out east is that it's pulling tropical air from far south of us, bringing the *overnight* temperature up to 12ºC (53ºF) in the time of year where normal overnight temperatures are below 0ºC (32ºF).
