Just a few spots.
Somehow, we were spared?

Thankfully for Jamaica, their power supply is massively more resilient than Nova Scotia's. By my calculations, Jamaica's power supply is 20 times more resilient than Nova Scotia's..
18% of Jamaica's population is without power after Hurricane Melissa's gusts of up to 300km/h swept through the island.
In 2022, Hurricane Fiona left 80% of Nova Scotians without power. The strongest gust was merely 180km/h (which is 1/5 the power of Hurricane Melissa).

20mm of rain here in Halifax is such an extreme weather event that nearly 10,000 homes are currently without power.
Or perhaps its what happens when utilities are run by US companies.

It would seem that Nova Scotia Power hackers stole around 140,000 social insurance numbers.

Is anyone else in Nova Scotia on a smart meter suddenly receiving huge power bills?
EDIT: I've enquired among my neighbours and no one else seems to have issues.
I think it's probably a combination of a new heat pump and burning less wood.No need to boost.

Be Proud of your Monopoly! #NSPower
They broke a record. #NovaScotia Power had one day it didn't have an unplanned power outage.
4,700 outages, recording just a single day without an unplanned outage.

Today's Poll:
#Halifax residents
#NovaScotia residentsWith yet another quasi-hurricane thing ready to descend on us starting tomorrow, in your estimation, just how much do you expect #NSPower to be down for you?
-
Sitting here in the dark because #nspower had to shut our power off to fix a problem nearby. #dartmouth
-
@geographile the power outages in #novascotia are not really to do with #hurricanlee, they are the effectis of underinvestment in the power distribution networks by #nspower's wealthy shareholders

#UPDATE: Nova Scotia Power , #NSPower, says this morning's #PowerOutages were due to a loss of connection to its transmission tie with New Brunswick.
https://halifax.citynews.ca/local-news/thousands-waking-up-without-power-in-hrm-6382258 #CityNews #News #Halifax #NovaScotia #BlackoutNSP says it had to reduce power consumption until the connection was restored.
Some 56,000 customers were impacted.RATE INCREASES EXPECTED
-
as much as I love to hate #NSPower, looks like they have about 4.6% of customers without power, #HydroOne has 5.1%, #HydroQuebec 7.7%, and...
31% OF MAINE???

So apparently it’s heavy snow and high winds (70 km/hr) tomorrow.
Dear electricity: I’ve got stuff to do all day. Don’t you even _think_ about down time. #nsstorm #nsweather #nspower

If you're just waking up (soon) #Halifax, watch for debris slowing down traffic..
https://halifax.citynews.ca/local-news/storm-knocks-out-power-to-thousands-in-halifax-area-6182834Tens of thousands of Nova Scotians were without power early Thursday as a storm continued to blow through the province.
As of 5:30 a.m., Nova Scotia Power was reporting more than 55,000 customers were in the dark. Nearly 5,000 of those customers were in the #Halifax #NSPower area, with outages reported in the Lower #Sackville and St. Margaret's Bay areas.

With the #power likely to go out overnight due to the wind and heavy rains...correction, due to #NSPower's infrastructure... it's an important reminder to charge all devices, including ourselves.
...unfortunately, I'm suffering from #insomnia, so I'll likely be able to tell you the _exact moment_ it goes out.
...yaaaaaaaay...
-
#NovaScotia will have significant winds overnight. #Halifax region included.
There's risks driving, when vehicles may be pushed, or hit by flying debris.
You know the drill? Don't drive if you don't have to. And if you do have to, drive really careful.
Charge your #phones and expect #power interruptions.
This isn't our first Rodeo, and Nova Scotia Power #NSPower has been knocked out by squirrels before. Salt air, gentle breezes, careless drivers.. wet weather.. etc.. -
The winds are so intense on the peninsula that my power went out for like 15 minutes! Granted, that could also just be a statement about #NSPower, the preferred power outage provider of folks in #NovaScotia. 🙃
