That was a bitter loss for the Vancouver Rise. Not going to lie, they didn’t play well at all. Too many missed passes, too many shots that weren’t made.
Wife was let down. But what can you do? At least she got a hat and a jersey.

Я инженер, который пилит свой DNS-резолвер по ночам, и читал законы не от хорошей жизни, а потому что это мой бизнес, и мне надо было понять, что я могу обещать пользователю, а что нет. Всё, что ниже, моя интерпретация после чтения первоисточников, а не legal advice. Если вы строите бизнес или compliance-стратегию на этих выводах, наймите EU privacy lawyer. Они для того и есть. Юр-формулировки писали юристы для юристов, и читать их примерно то же удовольствие, что разбирать почерк врача. Но в DNS-индустрии слишком много обещаний «мы privacy-first» и слишком мало конкретики о том, что провайдер физически может и физически обязан сделать в определённых сценариях. Разберём CLOUD Act, FISA 702, GDPR и Schrems II, и посмотрим, как эти штуки превращают «privacy» в маркетинговое слово или в реальную защиту. Я делаю VantageDNS, recursive DNS с фильтрацией, инкорпорация в Финляндии. У меня skin in the game: я и сам должен понимать, что могу и что не могу. I really wanted to catch Vancouver Rise yesterday at Swangard Stadium, but my Fediverse talk conflicted. Oh, well—there will be a next time.
Nevertheless, the Rise actually won again after losing their first three games of the season. So that’s two in a row.
And it looks like the goalie change on he roster worked. 21-year-old Jessica Wulf has been a great netminder and has made truly highlight reel saves. Also, she should be called “The Wulf of Imperial Street”—because that’s where Swangard Stadium is located.
Suddenly, Vancouver Rise are in 3rd place after an awful start to the season.

And it took a goalie change with Japanese netminder Jessica Wulf between the pipes. Sometimes you need drastic changes to make things happen.
Also, Jessica De Filippo and Latifah Abdu started together—this team really needs them to get stuff going.

Interesting. Melissa De Felippo isn’t playing for Vancouver Rise today. Instead, she’s replaced by Anna Bout—who played for Vancouver Rise Academy last year, and made mark in the CONCACAF World Cup Champions Cup.

All right! I’m pumped!
Vancouver Rise is facing Ottawa Rapid. The Rise are the #NSL champs. However, they have yet to win a game this season. Meanwhile, Rapid won their home opener but lost their last game.
Of course, I’m cheering on the Rise because they are my girls. I hope Latifah Abdu has come to play because she’s clearly their spark.

Europeans ask, “Why doesn’t Canada have a pro-rel #soccer system like everywhere else on the planet?”
Because Canada doesn’t have a Tier 2 league.
The pyramid goes like this:
- Tier 1 (Professional) – Canadian Premier League
- Tier 2 – nothing established yet
- Tier 3 (Pro-Am Regional) – Premier Soccer Leagues (BCPL, APL, OPL, etc.)
- Tier 4 (Amateur) – provincial adult and youth leagues
Premier Soccer Leagues just launched this year, unifying various provincial pro-am leagues.
Long term, everyone acknowledges there needs to be a Tier 2 league. Problem is, pro domestic leagues need work.
#CPL isn’t yet stable and it is competing with #MLS in core markets like Vancouver and Toronto. And #NSL literally just launched.
But given how big Canada is geographically, a traditional Tier 2 league might mean a structure more akin to the Canadian Hockey League where you have three “major” regional leagues in Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec-Maritimes. The champions of each league would then meet each year in a round-robin tournament—with the top prize being promotion to the Canadian Premier League.

Not going to lie. It is difficult watching the Whitecaps play. Just completely bummed knowing the #MLS will take our team away.
Listen, we did everything right. We showed up to games. We bought the merch. We build a culture around this team. And they’re still going.
In my perfect fairytale world, the community would rally around our ‘Caps, we’d all chip in to buy it up—and the team would win the championship.
But MLS owns all the teams. Everything is centrally controlled. And Vancouver has never been central to MLS’ aspirations.
My only consolation is that we still have #CPL and #NSL teams. With time, they could fill the void. But the void sure as hell won’t be filled soon.
