#ScribesAndMakers 2 Whatever?
The back door opened and his sister came in.
“Find any?” Tom asked, with a grin.
“What?” Francesca’s response was sharp.
“I don’t know. Whatever you were looking for.”
“I wasn’t looking for anything,” Fran said.
“Or waiting for,” Tom said, laying extra weight on the middle word.
“Mind your own business, little bro,” Fran said.#ScribesAndMakers #novelx2 #Tom&Theresa

What rôle does death play in your work?In the natural course of things, death is usually there or thereabouts

ScribesAndMakers 29th March 2025.
What is your proudest or best moment with your creative endeavour this month?I'm editing. So, it has been those times when I've come across a chapter that really sings. There have been a few of those this month (I can remember at least one 😜 !)
That gives me immense satisfaction

Thoughts on chapter length. Long, short or mixed?
What's a chapter?I seem to have settled on 6-7 pages (2k words -ish) as an optimum length
I think, when I was writing #novelx2, I did some calculations but I have no idea what those calculations were ... something like: Take 100k words, divide by 50 chapters = 2k per chapter
A chapter is what I want to write within that framework

#WritingWonders: 18th July
I wasn't sure how to answer this until I saw your answer
It is the characters, but not always how you expect
My #novelx1 (aka #EG1) was intended to be about the archaeology on a student summer dig in the Cotswolds but Elyssia Gadnall, who lived nearby, kept butting in
My current wip(s) - #novelx4 & #novelx5 (#EG2 & #EG3) - is(are) about her

#WritingWonders 9. Do natural calamities play a role in your story?
<struggling to think>
#novelx1, at the beginning, there's a deluge of rain that floods the archaeology dig
#novelx2, there's a storm in which a sailing boat carrying one of the main characters (MC1) is wrecked on a beach in Sussex near to where MC2 lives. (Thereby hangs a tale!)
#novelx3, there's a lot of snow at one point making life difficult
#novelx4, nothing yet as far as I can remember...
