Der Original-Launcher meines Pixel 6a war unbrauchbar für mich, also #novalauncher installiert.
Der wurde jetzt durch den neuen Eigentümer kaputt gemacht.
Was könntet ihr mir empfehlen? Ich will nur meine Apps am Startbildschirm frei anordnen können und einen alphabetisch sortierten App-Drawer.

I installed the useful app #Privamatic from #FDroid which rates your privacy settings on #Android and gives you actionable improvement tips: https://f-droid.org/packages/com.techtrest.privamatic/
It suggested to replace #NovaLauncher with @lawnchairapp since Nova was sold to a private company in April that started introducing ads. The open source #Lawnchair can import Nova settings files, so moving was pretty smooth.

Alrighty then...it's been a month with Niagara as my home screen since Nova "died" and I finally feel comfortable enough with uninstalling it.

On one hand it's a bummer to see another great launcher fall apart and change in ways I can't get behind.

On the other hand now I don't have to search through the app update list and cancel the update to the latest build and hope I get it before it starts installing. That got tiring REAL fast.

It was a great (almost) 14 year run 🫠

Today, years after I paid for Nova Launcher, they put an unskippable overlay on my screen telling me to upgrade or continue, but with ads. I said continue and they put huge intrusive ads in my app tray.

I finally got off my lazy ass and deleted Nova Launcher off of my phone now that they added Facebook trackers to it. :blobcorgimeltsob:​ I know I should've done it way sooner but I've used Nova for like a decade so it was hard to say goodbye.

I switched to Lawnchair and it's been pretty nice. :blobyeengrin:​ I miss being able to have my default screen be in the middle instead of all the way to the left, but I got Neo Feed working so now if I swipe to the left at least something is there.

Not FOSS, but turn's out Nova's vaunted FOSS-on-shutdown promise wasn't worth anything either.

So #simpleLauncher now have a new customer on an annual renewal for under a quid a month, helping them out with a recurring stream of cash, even if more expensive over >3 years.

What a stupid way to throw away any remaining good will.

It seems that Lawnchair is a popular place for Nova refugees to land, so I'm giving that a try. Didn't take more than about 5 minutes to get the basic home screen comfortable for me, so that's a good sign. We'll see how it goes.

Nova Launcher (@novalauncher ) is discovering the cost of adding ads to its app.

This launcher was okay to use, but it is far from being an essential. When I became aware that it was now serving ads, I did not wait. I immediately uninstalled.

The reviews in Google Play Store are damning.

Uninstalled #NovaLauncher from my phone because they added ads and whatnot. Not opposed to paying for a launcher but that rollout gave me bad vibes.

Would prefer a reliable #FOSS alternative. I mainly liked Nova because of the dock and I found it easy to customize. I'm definitely not a power user.

But looked in the F-Droid store and there are WAY too many launchers, lol.

Paid the damned $4 to get rid of the ads. This sucks. The fact that you need to pay to get rid of ads. Fucking ridiculous.

All the launchers I have tried so far seem to be so restricted in the way they handle customisation.
All I really need is a launcher that...
• lets me move my widgets around as I please
• gives me a dock on my home screen with the apps *I* want in the order I want them
and lets me create folders on the homescreen.

I'm not even asking anymore for a customizable app drawer. #android
