  1. Every day I wake up and remind myself that no matter how sad and pathetic my life is at least I’m not a middle aged white fandom mom who thinks AO3 is the last bastion of queer expression and calls younger people puriteens and tries to lecture them on “fandom history” 🙏

  9. Big fan of YOI fanworks where Makkachin is still around no matter how many years into the future they are. Hell yeah take those creative liberties 🔥🔥🔥🔥

  12. My one criticism of Yuri!!! On Ice is that the whole thing about Yuuri’s weight at the beginning (even if it’s two episodes or so) is so uncomfortable to watch, especially coming from an otherwise refreshing show where other forms of oppression like queerphobia don’t exist. Of course I’ve seen worse and this is nothing compared to other series, but it has two instances of characters forcibly removing part of his clothing to expose his stomach, something that’s visibly humiliating for him, and Viktor calling his body a pig’s body and calling him piggy not too long after declaring he’s gonna be his coach (I know he keeps referring to him as piggy after he loses weight and I’ve seen a few explanations that using baby animal names as terms of endearment is a Russian thing, but this is still a deliberate choice that the writers made) and Yurio also calling him a pig (again, I know Yurio keeps calling him a pig even after he loses weight probably because that’s just the way he is, but it’s still so awkward), and while I love them as characters and love Viktor and Yuuri together, again, that’s uncomfortable to watch. And of course the whole thing is treated as a joke because apparently fat people remain the last acceptable demography to openly and overtly humiliate and make fun of with little to no repercussion 😐
(Personally, I like to imagine that the characters quickly grew out of it, maybe it’s a way of coping but I don’t think that’d be too unrealistic in that show’s universe. I’ve seen a lot of fanworks of Viktor finding Yuuri’s off season tummy adorable and tbh I love it).

(This is and will always be one of my favorite series and it still brings me so much joy, I just think these things should be brought up and discussed).

(P.S. ppl who try to start shit on this post will catch a block, I’m not engaging with you so don’t bother, if you’ve never been called a fat pig yourself then good for you).

  18. Thought I should also post the longer explanation on why I include the "Please don’t comment things like “I miss them”, “Fuck Mappa”, etc" disclaimer in all my YOI art:

Some of y’all probably find it annoying and I don’t like doing it myself, but I felt it was necessary after getting a decent number of similar comments (mostly in Tumblr tags but it also happened during my short stay on Bluesky) and I think I should explain why a lot of us aren’t very happy with those kinds of comments.

I know it’s disappointing not to get a movie, a sequel or any kind of canon expansion of a work of fiction that makes us so happy and means so much to us. But someone else’s art/fanfic/etc is not the place to vent your sadness and/or your anger at an animation studio, especially if you don’t know if that person is okay with such comments.

It seems fandoms have become very consumerist nowadays, people devour a series as soon as it comes out, maybe engage with it for a short while and then move on as soon as there’s no more canon content to consume and consider it “dead” and talk about it as if it was lost media or something. The most common comment I get on my YOI art is “I miss them ):”, and I know it’s not your intention, but when you comment such things on someone else’s fan creation, you’re sending them the message that what they do doesn’t matter. I’ve even had one comment that was “I miss this fandom”. A comment about missing the fandom, on a piece of fanart made by a fan that belongs to the fandom, and is making fanart out of love for the series and sharing it with other fans that also belong to the fandom. Insert “Quit telling everyone I’m dead!” meme. Also all stories officially come to an end at some point, that doesn’t mean they’re gone, you can rewatch/reread them as many times as you want, the characters are still there.

  20. Hmmm.

Can y'all imagine Viktuuri as parents? I’m honestly torn.

Like on one hand the thought of them doting over some kid is cute and I’ve read some super adorable and well written fanfics (whether canon-compliant or AUs) about parental Viktuuri and the impulse to give your OTP a fankid is always strong, not gonna lie. On the other hand, I don’t think a couple (whether fictional or real) needs a child to be complete. Besides, they come across to me as the kind of couple that values peace and quiet and being able to travel and do whatever they want on a whim and only want each other’s company, maybe they’ll keep getting dogs but that’s it. Maybe it’s because I’m childfree myself so I’m projecting, I don’t know.

Or maybe in the future they become mentors/parental figures to younger skaters, especially if they are also queer. The thought is appealing.

    What do y'all think?

  22. Hot take maybe but people who call all media that’s cute and wholesome “sanitized” are just as annoying as people who call all media that’s dark and edgy “problematic”, can’t y'all just say something’s not ur cup of tea like normal people?

  28. If you diss female characters in favor of gay ships but don’t put the same energy into shipping those female characters with other female characters then your problem is less lack of queer rep and more internalized misogyny me thinks 🥴
"Female characters are bland and boring", okay then make your own or flesh out the existing ones with headcanons, you already do that with mediocre men lmao.
