  1. Is your note collection making or unmaking the world? A reflection on institutional collecting, personal note archives, and why output matters more than input.

  2. Tip of the day: If you’ve ever needed to consolidate content from multiple documents into one, you likely have used copy and paste. But if you make edits, they have to be made to all involved files. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could keep the documents separated but show them as a single document? 3.

  4. Tip of the day: Callouts are a #Markdown feature for highlighting tips, notes, or important information as text blocks — familiar from textbooks or online tutorials, for example. #DEVONthinkToGo also supports them in your #Markdown documents. Here is how to use them. #notetaking #tipoftheday devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  6. Going back to more analogue techniques and interested in those that use paper notebooks 📓 📒 (note taking):

    - What are your favorite notebooks?
    - What size are you using? (I am looking at A5 currently)
    - Are you using a mechanical pencil?

  7. Do you ever feel there’s too many ready-made answers that don’t fit your needs? Me too. That’s why I’m exploring an alternative: ’living questions’. Not quite Rilke, but also not not Rilke.

  8. 👂 Interested? Get early access, become a member of the 'inner circle'. Only email required: https://tally.so/r/yPbWLd

I’ve always loved the idea of an outliner, yet I have to find one that doesn’t require a course to figure out. Or isn't just plain ugly.
In 2016, I started a career in UI/UX. This year, I’ve started my passion project: Mimir. An outliner and expression of everything I’ve learned since then.

Mimir is deliberately limited, yet not stunted. Users can make and add oEmbed widgets per block. They can use the URI for power functions. The rest of the features should be easily understood.

    There’s ✅:
A journal view and loose pages
    Wikilinking and showing backlinks
    Block-level referencing
    Simple formatting of text
    TODO/DONE task management
    Simple 'templates'
URI-support (for Apple Shortcuts or other automation)
    oEmbed anything (sandboxed)
    Cloud sync
    Export to Plaintext

    There’s NOT ⛔️
    Multiple ‘vaults’
    Markdown files
    iCloud sync
    Open-source
    Web-access
    Document-mode
    Image support (not natively)

I am making this application for myself. Yet, several people have shown interest. And that feels like an opportunity. The plan is to release it with one-time payment for each major release, across platforms. It would include free, encrypted, hosted in the EU, cloud sync. Starting with macOS and iOS, and with enough interest, Android and Windows after.

  9. Lifehacker: AI Note-Taking Apps Are Violating User Privacy. “A few years ago, AI note-taking and transcription tools were a niche productivity hack used by busy executives and the media. Now, they’re everywhere. But these apps come with a legal fine print that most people don’t know to look for.”

  11. Ugh. I have been so overworked (in a part-time job, FFS) that I've just been randomly throwing notes into my #Obsidian inbox or leaving them to languish, lost and forgotten, in my Daily Notes or my physical #notebooks .

And so today I set out to clean up my notes on one topic and one topic only and....

    Sigh.

Two hours of unproductive confusion and overwhelm. I give up.

    #AmWriting ... not.

  12. A quotation from Abraham Lincoln

Often an idea about it would occur to me which seemed to have force and make perfect answer to some of the things that were said and written about my actions. I never let one of those ideas escape me, but wrote it on a scrap of paper and put it in that drawer. In that way I saved my best thoughts on the subject, and, you know, such things often come in a kind of intuitive way more clearly than if one were to sit down and deliberately reason them out.
To save the results of such mental action is true intellectual economy. It not only saves time and labor, but also the very best material the mind can supply for unexpected emergencies.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) American lawyer, politician, US President (1861-65)
Remark (1863) to James F. Wilson (Attributed)

  15. Tip of the day: If you want to take notes about a document in your #DEVONthink database, there is a feature for exactly that: the annotation. This is a specialized note document attached to another document. Here is how to create and use them. #artificialintelligence #notetaking #pkm #productivity #research #tipoftheday devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  16. 🎉 Mimir is feature complete. Can you imagine. My whole Linear backlog has no features left. Only bugs and improvements. From here on it is all focus on fixing and streamlining the user experience.

  17. Several people have asked whether Mimir will ever get released to the public.

A few thoughts I have about this prospect, if ever!
⁃ It’s a very opinionated piece of software. I will not build in features that I won’t use.
⁃ It’ll be a high price up front, no-subscription type of deal. One payment per platform. ≈€20-€50 per license.
⁃ Pay for upgrading major versions. Small incremental updates free.
⁃ It would have a free, build-in sync service. The current solution? UX wise I am against. That also means it’ll never have attachments and image hosting.
⁃ The safe-keeping of your notes would be downloading a zip of your database in plain text. Could even be a monthly email with an expiring link.
⁃ I’d probably have some AI do the support and bug tracking.

Essentially Culture Code their Things business model.

    Still interested?😆
