Asked by a client: "Can I just have the person fill out [the affidavit] and then take it to a notary by myself, or does the person have to go with me to the notary?"

I don't expect people to understand the nuances of intellectual property, securities, or constitutional #law, but I'm amazed that people don't understand the concept of notarization. If it isn't to assure that the signature on a page was signed by the person that was supposed to sign it, what do these people think a #notary does?

Do you have to be a #lawyer or #notary public to know that you must have ID handy from someone to notarize your signature? Is that something not widely known?

So, I got a job and I start next week. They want me to fill out a form for a background check and either bring it into HR with my ID for verification (not feasible; I live more than 3000 miles away) OR have a notary public verify. Lucky for me, it turns out that the city of #Hillsboro offers free #notary services at the Brookwood and Schute Park #Libraries for anyone.

A WI attorney’s notary stamp went missing. Turns out it was taken by the attorney down the hall, who denied having it while using it to notarize at least 18 affidavits filed with the bankruptcy court. After trying to blame his staff and falsely telling the court he had permission to use the stamp, he was sanctioned by the court & disbarred.

Bloody #notary! They didn't wanna accept my income tax receipt as proof of address despite law 6629/1979 explicitly saying that an income tax receipt is valid proof of address.

They also complained that I showed only the copy of my passport but the regulation in question merely said I had to show a copy, not hand over a copy, nor show the original.

I really wanna file a formal complaint with whoever is in charge of overseeing the notaries in my state.
