Hier je faisais un atelier #sérigraphie pour lequel j'accueillais deux hommes blancs cis hétéro autour de 45 ans.
Le midi à table on a discuté des milieux militants, et de la place des féministes véner.
Ça fait 30 ans que je suis dans ce milieu #anar #squat #gauchiste #woke Et ben c'est dingue, ça fait 30 ans qu'on a les mêmes discussions, et que des gars comme ceux-ci (surtout le plus vieux des 2) ne comprennent rien 😱!

Le voilà donc m'expliquant que les féministes qui gueulent agressivement contre un mec blanc qui prend la parole dans le contexte, par exemple, du village de l'eau, nuisent à la cause et sont inefficaces.

@Melezioh Gonna try not to overstep in how I phrase anything, but from what I've seen - I agree. And I think it comes down, once again, to painting too many people with the same brush.

I've known trans men that were very active/vocal about supporting their trans sisters. I've known some that were allies but quieter about it, because they had their own shit going on. I've seen trans men that participated in transmisogynistic hate campaigns online - which is baffling to me, and not really something I've seen on Mastodon, but some other platforms, definitely.

Grouping all these categories into one and then saying "trans men, do better!" feels incoherent, unhelpful, and just plain mean. I know it kinda sounds like a #NotAllMen sort of position, but it's literally true. And the counterpoint to "not all men" is "but potentially any man and you don't know which," which is also true for trans men (they're men, after all) but IME trans men are far less likely to be chuds on average than cis guys.

@hopland Great post. It is one of the great disasters of our time - that we have seriously failed to address male violence and particularly sexual violence, towards women.

All men need to at least acknowledge this.

And the reply guys need to not turn up in Every. Single.Discussion about this and whine about other kinds of violence and sexual violence. (HINT: you can have your own thread about that and under no circumstances ever, is #NotAllMen an acceptable response)

Great to see this raised - and for us to acknowledge that men ARE the problem, that women are unsafe around men, and that we need to do a better job of educating ourselves and our boys - and refusing to accept the status quo.

At some level, this shouldn't be difficult and yet the problems seem intransigent while men refuse to accept the evidence.

@Damselfly I think we should normalize saying things like #NotAllMen or #NotAllWhitePeople or the like when people say good things about white people or men. Let them see how vapid that whole #NotAll... formulation is.

Non serve essere violenti per tramandare il maschilismo, basta tramandare i pregiudizi sulle donne, consapevolmente o meno.
A livello globale, 1 donna su 3 subisce violenza fisica e/o sessuale nella sua vita, principalmente da parte di un partner. Questo è un duro promemoria della portata della disuguaglianza di genere e della discriminazione nei confronti delle donne.
Alla luce di queste informazioni come si può incallirsi sul “not all men”?

I'm reflecting more on Qasim Rashid's post "Women Are Not Safe Around Men" today, and I realized that this post was the first time that I've seen a piece of "YesAllMen" writing generate hundreds of boosts on fedi.

and this isn't a dig at Qasim at all - I'm appreciative that he made this post - but what sticks out to me is that, just coincidentally, it was written by a man.

there's so many women and fems on fedi who have spoken out in the past about gendered violence and harassment and get a fraction of the exposure, if that, that this post received.

meanwhile, men saying more eloquent variants of #NotAllMen also get hundreds of boosts.

it's almost as though the prevailing trend is that women and fems aren't listened to or taken seriously on fedi.

hmm. I wonder if there's a theory that might explain this phenomenon.

@mira like, the event that fomented the modern Internet far right was literally built on the foundation of virulent misogynist gang-stalking, and a mere decade later we have "radical" queers spouting #NotAllMen takes.

it's fucking horrifying how successful the propaganda really was.

if men spent one fraction of the energy that they expend on #NotAllMen rhetoric on encouraging other men to hold themselves accountable for their violence, abuse, and misogyny, then the world would be so much of a better place.

sadly, we don't live in that world.

There's a whole lot of people who would roll their eyes at a #notallmen post who do the same thing when it comes to them being part of the evil empire.
