Exciting! My blog post on the fate of left‑handed barbers in 20th‑century UK has been picked up by the "No Such Thing As A Fish" team for their latest "Little Fish" podcast.
-
@cavyherd I think it was this recent episode of No Such Thing As A Fish in which they briefly discussed Emily Brewster discovering a new meaning of "a(n)": https://podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcast/no-such-thing-as-gutter-ice/id840986946?i=1000747203795
Couldn't quickly find an original source for that claim, tho.

According to #NoSuchThingAsAFish ep 332, Stanton Avery, inventor of the self-adhesive sticker, lived in a rented chicken coop while studying.
I've only found one source, an obituary in the LA times. But set that aside and consider your next crazy inventor NPC: Stan lives and works in a ramshackle old shed where every surface is covered in chickens. He alone knows how to make sticky boots that let you walk on the ceiling. But first you must win over his 34 chicken housemates.

30/n I’m listening to the latest episode of No Such Thing As A Fish, and they have a fact about people believing for a long time that your arteries are filled with air (and that that’s even where the word “artery” comes from from), while they briefed that the airways were filled with fluids. In unrelated news: I bought an overpriced drink that apparently has extra oxygen?

Had an excellent evening yesterday seeing #NoSuchThingAsAFish live at Hamer Hall.

Any UK based No Such Thing as a Fish listeners here?
The last 2 episodes have been crammed with injected adverts, specifically for an Irish grocery chain.
The episodes have been downloaded via my ISP UK (@aaisp) so I assume their host is either not doing geo-loacation or it's very broken

Listening to Quite A Good Sport (1: Rowing): https://audioboom.com/posts/8544398
James & Anna speak to Team GB’s Imogen Grant (lightweight sculls) and Eve Stewart (coxed eights) about their paths to Paris2024, and then take to the water themselves in a time trial along the Thames.

I bought A Beginners Guide to Breaking and Entering by Andrew Hunter Murray on Apple Books UK after hearing the opening chapter on the audiobook on a Patreon Club Fish episode of the No Such Thing as a Fish podcast recently.

"Cucumber planting" indeed!
I might just have dreamt it, but wasn't there recently a #NoSuchThingAsAFish episode about farmers pre-seeding fields by having a good old roll in the fields, and/or spreding their own seeds around by hand?

#MagnusArchives. Quite the podcast find. Great to squeeze in a couple of Eps for a spooky drive home after work. Addictive!
And is helping to spread out the final 64 Eps of #NoSuchThingAsAFish which has been keeping me company all through the Pandemic years! -
@ColinTheMathmo In 1950, the ballet/pantomime "Isotopia" was performed. It was a creation by Muriel Howarth, apparently a radioactivity enthusiast. It featured people portraying protons, neutrons, electrons and a Geiger counter. Apparently, this is what Time magazine wrote about it:
“13 bosomy A.E. Associates in flowing evening gowns gyrated gracefully about a stage in earnest imitation of atomic forces at work. An ample electron in black lace wound her way around two matrons labeled ‘proton’ and ‘neutron’ while an elderly ginger-haired Geiger counter clicked out their radioactive effect on a pretty girl named Agriculture. At a climactic moment, a Mrs. Monica Davial raced across the stage in spirited representation of a rat eating radioactive cheese.”

I'm loving the fact that the No Such Thing As a Fish podcast is now on the #BBC #Sounds app. No adverts :ablobsmilehappy:
#NoSuchThingAsAFish -
Interesting. The No Such Thing as a Fish podcast is now available on BBC Sounds.
I’d love to hear the backstory for this change. Id guess its part of a wider deal for the Qi TV show and other radio shows from the Qi production company.

Time for the Saturday morning routine of the latest #nosuchthingasafish podcast; and what great news to start it with - the return of the original Gang of Four as from next week.
-
Settling down to the 500th episode of #nosuchthingasafish and the return of Anna Ptaszynski.
-
@McRocker @neilhimself
I had a listen to the memory palace with Nate Dimeo over supper.
It was about The Six Triple Eight.
Enlightening but heavier than #NoSuchThingAsAFish -
@neilhimself lovely hearing you on #NoSuchThingAsAFish but have you mentioned #mosstodon to andy?
-
So @AntennaPod has this amazing feature! What have you all been listening too? I'll admit I relisten to episodes of #NoSuchThingAsAFish hence the 1100hrs ^_^

Best quote from this weeks #nosuchthingasafish “are you on mastodon?” “No, that sounds like a mafia based porn site”. #mastodon
-
@rosemarymosco Interestingly, the False Geko (Pseudogekko pungkaypinit) is actually a geko. Thanks #nosuchthingasafish for that fact.
-
So I've been using @AntennaPod for a while now and I like it very much. There are only a few nitpicks I have.
Podcasts I mark as listened to should be removed from the queue automatically.
The algorithm to remove silence seems to be too aggressive at times. In a few podcasts (namely the #fivethirtyeight politics podcast and the #CupOGo podcast) it sounds like certain people are talking over themselves and in some others the outro music gets chopped up when it fades out (e.g., #NoSuchThingAsAFish). That wouldn't be too much of a problem if I could selectively enable or disable the feature but it's either on or off for all podcasts.

The bit near the end of the latest episode of No Such Thing is a Fish podcast in which Anna talks about how to use a cow insemination gun is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time 😂
-
Listening to the latest episode of #nosuchthingasafish and their discussion about Blackbeard’s brief 2 year time as a pirate.
“He was the liz truss of pirating” 🤣🤣🔥🔥 -
Tonight's #podcast listening has a lot of catching up on new dailies/weeklies from today (friday) and yesterday (thursday).
Some Skeptic's Guide to the Universe, some #NPR #Shortwave, @Tindogpodcast, #NoSuchThingAsAFish, This week in science (#TWIS), #UniverseToday, and then eventually I'll get to backlog #DoctorWho #Verity and @RadioFreeSkaro episodes.
I don't think I'll get to any backlog history podcast episodes tonight, but 8 hours (well, 6 hours now) is quite a chunk of time.
