Well.. we're in the last week for the #bounty. After May 21st, I'm keeping all the corn 🌽

For this last week, I am offering 100,000 #sats to any #nostrich who can decode the hidden phrase in the following artwork:

    #bitcoin

    ## DDFON / Mycelial Web

Sometime in the early 2010s, I've been using DDFON = Decentralized, Distributed, Federated, Open Network.

In 2022/2023, I reopted the chosen new name for the Fediverse "Mycelium" since in the end no one used it (even after multiple votes and discussions). I now use it this way:

    * DDFON friendly name is "Mycelial Web".
    * Each network is called "Mycelium network".

Since a "mycelium" is a single network in real life and the plural of it (a collection of mycelium) is "mycelial".

    ## Open Social / Social Web / Open Social Web

There is also "Social Web" and "Open Social Web", which are the same actually. However, in the mid to late 2000s, it was already defined as any network that uses any technology that promotes openness and interoperability. There was also a now defunct organization called "Open Social" and a W3C effort supporting such technologies that falls under "Open Social".

Two examples of "Open Social Web" are Hi5 and Google Plus. Hi5 and Google Plus are not DDFON / Mycelial Web but are Social Web / Open Social / Open Social Web.

    ## Personally

I make a distinction between the much larger "Social Web" / "Open Social" / "Open Social Web" versus the more focused DDFON or Mycelial Web .

Underneath the DDFON / Mycelial Web label are the Mycelium networks like:

    1. Fediverse (ActivityPub)
    2. ATmosphere (ATproto)
    3. The Federation (diaspora*)
    4. Matrix (Matrix)
    5. Jabber (XMPP)
    6. NOSTRich (Nostr)
    7. and others

    🙂

  3. 1. I can't make #Mostr to interact with a Fediverse-Threads account, thus, no Fediverse Profile is created on Threads side, which makes it impossible to follow a bridged #Nostr account via #Threads (since Threads doesn't offer Fediverse account search yet).

    2. Fediverse to Nostr seems to have stopped. Of the random accounts I checked on the #NOSTRich side, the most recent sync was November 28th, followed by November 23rd. Although Mostr's status page is showing all systems green.

    3. However, BskyBridgy to Nostr is working fine, almost real-time. (I didn't check Nostr to BskyBridgy.)

  4. @BeAware At first, it's expected. However, we have to try. If it won't fly, then it means, at least as far as the “Decentralized, Distributed, Federated, Open, Network” ( #DDFON ) space is concerned, they don't care if the “migrants” redefine things.

It happened before… #Web3 was, and still is, about the #OpenSocialWeb but it was hijacked by #cryptocurrency people. And to solidify their control over what “Web3” means, these same people campaigned that OpenSocialWeb is actually Web3.0 (with the point-0 included). And voila, we lost control over “Web3”.

It's happening again, with the term “Fediverse” this time. Ironically, some who were being lumped under the “Fediverse” terminology are resisting (like #NOSTR and #ATproto, they prefer to use #NOSTRich and #ATmosphere respectively).

But, again, like I said introducing a new term has its positives, like in the example I mentioned re: “Baybayin” vs “Surat”/“Suyat”. The latter became the commonly accepted umbrella term instead of the former.

It's all about the community. Remember, just a few years ago, the discussion about replacing the term “fediverse” were so common. Yet, when people suggested replacements, no one supported any. It was all complaints, and those who took steps eventually gave up.

Maybe I will give up one day. Or, maybe not.

LOL. “DDFON”, I've been using that since, I think 2012/2013? And it was only a year or two ago that someone said they like it better than all the other “proposals”. :p

  5. “Announcing Ditto”

    > Ditto is a Nostr community server. It has a built-in Nostr relay, a web UI, and it implements Mastodon's REST API.

    > Since Ditto implements the Mastodon API, it can work with any Mastodon app!

    > Users of Mastodon and Pleroma will be happy to see search functionality that actually works. 😂

    > Ditto is built in Deno with TypeScript. It's basically a REST API with a built-in Nostr relay. This is the same design as Mastodon and Pleroma, replacing ActivityPub with Nostr.
