10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Coyote vs. Acme" (2026)
(Okay, this one takes longer than 10s to read. So sue me.)
For those of a certain age, who grew up on a steady diet of Looney Tunes and "The Bugs Bunny - Road Runner Hour", this is a huge collection of references to the 'toons we watched as kids, but I think it would be just as enjoyable for those who came after and don't really know the material.
The story around it is good enough to entertain, despite liberties taken with reality. Will Forte is (to me) likeable and funny, and Wile E. is perhaps the most expressive and emotive 'toon character I've ever seen. Decent supporting cast.
The people who made this film clearly connected with the source material and mostly did right by the classic characters they were bringing back. There's no Mel Blanc to get the voices perfect, but you can't have everything.
It's fun. See it. And look up its production history if you want more proof of what a bunch of soulless ghouls and MBAs (but I repeat myself) film studio executive suites are full of.

I think the best way to describe that ending is "satisfying". Though not without sadness. #NoSpoilers

10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Dead Man's Wire" (2026)
Based on an actual hostage-taking incident in 1977, this is fantastic. Tense and claustrophobic but with an underlying current of dark humour, it also has layers to it. A fantastic cast and great performances all around. One of the better movies I've seen recently.
Highly recommended.

#coyotevsacme #audio #descriptions #audiodescription
#blindSaw the "Coyote vs Acme" Thursday night.
The audio descriptions were awful.
The movie was good.
I wouldn't pay to see it again in a theater, because I want to be able to pause it so I can read the things that were glossed over by the descriptions.
I'm sure the subpar audio descriptions were due to how the movie actually got released. And they aren't worthless. But I'm hoping they can be improved before it becomes available for streaming or DVD.

10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Minions & Monsters" (2026)
It's a Minions movie; if you like little yellow guys causing chaos, you'll probably like this.
It feels a little put-together, like they ran out of time trying to massage three unrelated story lines into a coherent narrative - I don't envy them the challenge of making a movie where your protagonists can't really communicate with the audience. Still, it's amusing.

Spoiler-free 10-second movie review: "Narcissist's Playbook" (2026) - documentary
If you're interested in psychology, especially abnormal psychology, this is fascinating. It's about narcissism in general, but also about the psychopathic end of that spectrum in particular. It includes interviews with actual narcissists across that spectrum.
It kind of takes a right-turn partway through, and my partner explained what was behind that - they already followed this subject and these participants in particular.
Like I said, fascinating.

That was awful. I can't believe they brought back Paul Rudd and Thanos just to do the Thanus joke. That was just tasteless. Especially in the middle of Ned's funeral. Sheesh.
-
Spider Pig was quite a shock.
-
Zendaya is playing Dr. Doom in this timeline? Wasn't expecting that.
-
They brought back Toby Maguire again? Awesome!
-
I can't believe they went with the Spider Man/Hulk romance storyline!

10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Disclosure Day" (2026)
A very good film - not perfect, but very good. Mixes scifi and action-thriller well. I didn't know it was directed by Spielberg until the end - it avoided his usual Disney-fication of subject matter. Probably the best scifi I've seen since "Arrival" (2016).
An excellent cast with great performances. Highly recommended.

My wife and I bonded over Toby McGuire's #Spiderman when we first met. I loved Andrew Garfield's performance in Amazing. For years, I would loudly proclaim he was my favorite. (Still is, don't worry. That hall pass isn't changing!) When Bo Way Home came out, it was my favorite Spider-Man movie.
Today changed that. #BrandNewDay is my all-time favorite after only one singular viewing. The cast did an amazing job. Holland is giving Garfield a run for my favorite spot with this outing for sure. #NoSpoilers

I have the absolute delight of introducing it to my g/f, so I've been rewatching S1/S2 with her while still watching S3.
The absolute *care* with which they are treating the writing has me. The acting is just amazing. The way they're using every available element to make this story effective, to make it work as an extension of the existing text, just... wow.

Spoiler-free 10 second movie review: "Normal" (2025)
It's fun. Treads familiar ground without too many innovations, but Bob Odenkirk is hard to dislike, and there are some standout performances from other actors. Action-(dark)-comedy, set in Minnesota and filmed in Manitoba.

Been working on my Coraline CyberPunk A.U. (C.C.P.A.U. for short). I've finally finished writing Act III, and I only need to write out the Epilogue.
This is surreal, because I've been writing and rewriting the plot for two years now, and finally having it be close to done that I can start production is just.. Wow.

My two favorite things about The Boroughs so far:
1. No matter how old he gets, when Alfred Molina smiles, he looks like a kid.
2. Geena Davis seduces a heavily-tattooed Latino in his 30s. Because yes, she's still Geena Fucking Davis.
