Something a little post-apocalyptic for #MeerMittwoch today. This is #IJmuiden (yes, you capitalise both first letters; no, I don't know why). This is the port city at the western end of the North Sea Canal, and if you ever take a cruise to Amsterdam that docks in the city then there's a good chance you'll be sailing past this industrial beauty into the locks.

Not quite, but I grew up in a #polder next to a canal, so I had several sort of pumping stations (#boezemGemaal / #gemaal) as well as sluses/locks and waterways nearby.

@codewiz having lived next to (and below) the #Noordzeekanaal (#NorthSeaCanal) in the #Netherlands for the majority of my life, where I'd see everything from speedboats and rowboats to big marine vessels, cruise ships and century old #tallships basically in my backyard, and visited #Utrecht and #Amsterdam with canals all through their cities, I'm definitely not impressed by this either. :)
