Well there’s a surprise. The £55bn (possibly up to £80bn?) spent on HS2 in the south will always get priority. “Mayors in the north of England are meeting to demand the government “get a grip” on appalling rail services, with TransPennine Express on track to cancel more than 20,000 trains this year.
The operator has so far cancelled about a quarter of services in 2023.”
Tracy Brabin said there was frequent overcrowding on services that do run, and “health and safety issues – the staff are incredibly concerned”.
