Mockingbird Tribunal

This morning, while out walking with my dog Charlie, I witnessed a bit of nature’s drama. An American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) was perched in a tangle of branches atop a tree, while a couple of northern mockingbirds (Mimus polyglottos) were harassing it—evidently trying to coax the larger bird to move on.

The Northern Mockingbird pair are mostly absent from their nest. I guess the ambient temperature is warm enough that they don’t feel the need to lay on the eggs?
