4% doesn't sound like a lot-- except 4% short of 2,800km is quite a bit, taking heart rate as a rough indicator of endurance.

Heart rate varied greatly among individuals, with a clear decrease during gliding—corroborating its energy-saving function. Furthermore, we found consistent proof for decreased heart rate during in-wake flying, by up to 4.2%."

@birdwriter1 Such great news! And a lovely bird that we are breeding here at Nordens Ark. We've sent ibises to Spain where they have been released into the wild, and we will continue our strive to save this species.
