I was a mixtape maker back in the day, and when I had access to the right tools (working at Kinko’s helped), I sometimes made J cards that had absolutely nothing to do with the mixtape itself. As one does.
A friend sent me a flashback package with this inside.
Note: I was still rather naive about the apostrophe/foot-mark thing back then, but I got better.

Hype for the Future 186N: Bois de Sioux, Minnesota
Introduction The Bois de Sioux River is a notable river that forms part of the western border of the State of Minnesota, with the source of the river at Lake Traverse shared with northwestern South Dakota. Interestingly, Lake Traverse is notable for serving as the part of the southernmost Arctic Ocean watershed via the Red River of the North and Lake Winnipeg. Communities Much of the Minnesota Prairie, including along the Bois de Sioux River, is largely determined by rural communities that […]https://novatopflex.wordpress.com/2026/05/05/hype-for-the-future-186n-bois-de-sioux-minnesota/

This week’s CMOR photo is from Golden Valley County, North Dakota.
“Top soil moving off of long term no-till fields. These had been planted about 5 days ago with minimal soil disturbance. The movement of dust in corrals and barn yards due to the wind will potentially cause some dust pneumonia issues in young livestock, as well.”

I like their use of “agrowl” so much that I’ll look the other way on the Oxford comma (but not the errant extra spaces or the hyphen after -ly).

North Dakota Endangered Animals: Federal Listings, Key Species, and the Rules You Must Follow
North Dakota may be known for its open prairies and sprawling wetlands, but beneath that wide-open landscape, a quiet conservation crisis is unfolding. Several species that call this state home are teetering on the edge of extinction — and federal law has something to say about what you can and cannot do around them. Whether you're a landowner, an outdoor enthusiast, a farmer, or simply someone who spotted an unusual bird along the Missouri River, understanding how endangered species law […]https://animalofthings.com/endangered-animals-in-north-dakota/

Back in 2022, Prairie Public reported that in North Dakota, over 550 residents can trace their ancestry back to Lebanon, while over 200 people can trace theirs back to Syria.
Although these are not huge numbers, it has still left the State Historical Society of North Dakota with a wealth of oral histories, which were explored by the Society just this week.
