Sally Field (79), twice an Oscar-winning actress, says she ‘couldn't get in a room to audition’ after TV’s “The Flying Nun” (1967-1970).

Jack Nicholson (89) stepped in and helped Field escape comedic typecasting after #TheFlyingNun as she launched a successful dramatic acting career that led to two Oscar wins (1980, 1985).

  8. The great thing about concentrated media ownership is that some movies are just not freely available in australia for some reason… a cynical person might think there’s a hint of censorship about it 🤔

the other smart thing about concentrated media ownership is australia’s truly shit broadband network… which means i once again dug out a dvd i have not watched in quite some time, cos there is nothing else to watch when Mal’s intern0t shits itself

in #NormaRae 1979 (based on a true story) a textile worker in NC with little formal education helps unionise the cotton mill where she works.

it’s a good yarn, about a person with gumption.
the historical class or race issues are “almost” background noise, which is probably fair - i’m guessing what people of a certain time or place accepted as “normal”.

i love the way “Communists, agitators, crooks or Jews” rolls off the tongue in this early scene.

  9. Ever since I was little, I've been fiercely pro #union. Im not positive why (both parents are artist) but I'm pretty certain it was the impact of seeing #NormaRae as a tot. Later I learned my Grandfathers were in unions + other relatives. It's time we made those #films again.
