In the last two years, I spend plenty of time to make experiences with the Zephyr OS. I used the last days to look back and summarize at least some of my learnings. Target hardware was a microcontroller from Nordic Semiconductor. Some things worked surprisingly well, others did not.

@Luuni man skal ikkje være så hovmodig å tro at vi skal erstatte TSMC over natten nei, og man må vite at det er en kompleks industri å gjenskape som kan ta tiår.
Men du må da innse at dette er den første gangen vi en gang har snakket om dette, at dette er en pekepinne mot fremtiden, der vi kun vil se vekst for bla #NordicSemiconductor.
Det var poenget bak hele artikkelen og min post. Det er kanskje en god ide da å forholde seg til emnet istedenfor å ty til flisespikkeri.

The only thing that irritates me about this is that it wasn't built in #Europe.
Actually, scratch that. I am both saddened and angered that #Equinor isn't dumping a couple of hundred millions into #NordicSemiconductor to set up #RISCV prefabs so we can make our own SoC's - and I mean for workstation and server grade SoC's, not just embedded controllers.
#ARM is owned by ARM Holding and is therefore outside the scope of #DigitalSovreignty.

🙂 We got some good news today for #NordicSemiconductor, while Q1 was down as expected and guided, the CEO shared a very positive outlook for Q2 with an expected +54% to +81% increase. The investors agree and pushed the share price up more than 30% today.

Work wants to migrate from the Nordic nrf5 SDK to the "nrf Connect SDK" so we can do Matter. ("Smart Home"!!!!)
I loathe this change. It's gonna be lots of work migrating our current code. And I highly doubt the new features are even needed. (I'm only a firmware developer, not in market research. I only know I personally don't want anything that requires buying something with an always-on microphone by the biggest IT companies).

The benefit would be a clearer separation between application code and the operating system, and would allow users to develop the application that runs on a device in their preferred language, and not forced to write in low-level embedded languages like C/C++.
Runtimes like https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasm-micro-runtime are only 135 KB (plus the operating system) and could fit a #NordicSemiconductor #nRF9160. -

Love this: the #Riotee is a tiny #IoT board built around the #NordicSemiconductor #nRF52833 and is battery free! They provide a solar shield and a capacitor should to run the device. Removing the battery makes devices much more sustainable.

That's why #cellularIoT from #NordicSemiconductor will be big for home appliances: OEMs can ship the device and get operational data without any need for user interaction. The device can send diagnostic data and inform the user about firmware updates as soon as it is turned on when no Wi-Fi credentials are needed for the appliance's internet connection.

Looking back at 2022, and my 5th year at #NordicSemiconductor I am really happy about how it went, but what I am most excited about is the next five years to come. I was able to sign three amazing people to join my #cellularIoT cloud team and together we will provide building blocks for our customers' future products in the coming years.
