Nie ma to jak raz na jakiś czas zagrać sobie w jakąś oldschoolową przygodówkę. Szczególnie jeśli łączy wątki cyberpunkowe z bagiennym klimatem południowych Stanów Zjednoczonych, tak jak robi to #Norco.

Norco opowiada historię Kay Madere, która wraca po latach do tytułowej mieściny w Luizjanie. Niedawno zmarła jej matka, a wiecznie sprawiający problemy brat - zaginął. Została tylko androidka Million, by przybliżyć nam ostatnie wydarzenia w rodzinnych stronach. A te skrywają znacznie więcej sekretów, niż początkowo się spodziewamy... Norco było wielokrotnie nagradzane za to, jak świetnie napisano jego fabułę, dialogi i cały setting - mogę się do tych pochwał tylko przychylić. Pod względem zniszczonego luizjańskiego zadupia kojarzyło mi się z 1. sezonem "True Detective". Przede wszystkim jednak od początku intryguje światem przedstawionym i wciąga losami zaprezentowanych nam postaci.

Co jeszcze ważniejsze, przy tak pieczołowicie ukształtowanej narracji nie rozczarowuje wcale jako gra. Mamy tu "mapę umysłu", całkiem podobną do tej z Alana Wake'a 2, gdzie na podstawie przeprowadzonych rozmów odblokowujemy kolejne przemyślenia. To skuteczny mechanizm eliminujący tak powszechny w klasycznych przygodówkach problem, kiedy nie wiemy, co robić dalej. Norco nie nuży również kombinowaniem ze zbieranymi przedmiotami czy absurdalnymi łamigłówkami. Te nieliczne są naturalnie wplecione w historię, a rozgrywkę co chwila urozmaica np. pływanie małym stateczkiem po mapie luizjańskiego bagna czy prosty system walk turowych.

Twórca gry, niejaki Yuts, wychował się w prawdziwym Norco i stworzył grę na podstawie własnego dokumentu, w którym prezentował wpływ huraganu Katrina na Luizjanę. To tłumaczy, czemu historia ma tak osobisty charakter i potrafi poruszyć najtwardszego gracza, a w budowaniu świata czuć mnóstwo włożonego researchu. Dodajmy do tego piękną, pixelartową oprawę graficzną i odpowiednio klimatyczną muzykę, a w efekcie wyjdzie gra, którą mogę tylko gorąco polecić.

#newbikeday first full suspension bike. Inaugural ride went good at #whalfieldpark in #grandrapids #michigan. Did 2 laps and a little bit faster than my last bike even though this thing feels huge and not as maneuverable in the tight turns. Also pictured is my old #norco #bike which will be leaving the stable.

Today I finally started #norco going in blind, and it was a beautiful shock. It hits real close to home with the central theme, and for some reason playing it feels cathartic.

It's bittersweet, like returning to your hometown on a rainy but unusually warm November evening or something like that.

I’ve put ~5 hours into Norco so far. There's a good mix of story-on-rails and challenging puzzles. I think I've run into a few cases of unobtainable achievements due to the order of my actions, but that always leads to entertaining results.

The art is pretty-good-to-great in certain screens and, although the story isn't as mysterious as it could be, the dialogue is well-written.

I have no idea how much game is left, but I'm enjoying this a lot and want more like it. #Norco #games #SteamDeck

I am, quite vocally, not a fan of pixel art games. As I'm reasonably certain I've said before, I lived through pixel art when it was a necessity, and I have no nostalgic sentimentality towards that era that makes me look back wistfully to a more "simple" time.

Which is why, upon starting Norco, I sighed. It was immediately obvious that I'd overlooked the fact it was a pixel art game when I bought it, and I figured I'd just suffer through it for 15 minutes and get it out of the way.

I was wrong.

Norco is a point-and-click adventure, set in and around a suburb of New Orleans, some time in a run-down future.

The soundtrack is moody & evocative, and the storyline drew me in. The only reason I didn't keep playing is that I'm somewhere south of exhausted and desperately need some sleep.

Far from my initial impression, Norco is:

Today I powerwashed Lara Croft's mansion, obstacle course, maze, ATV, Jeep and speedboat. Knocked out a bunch of WTF with Marc Maron podcasts while I was at it. This evening I started Norco. It seems pretty cool. Odd, but cool. Finished Act 1. Interested to see where it goes.
