Sad news. I had no idea he was even sick. He and Gina Williams were a much loved double act. Their song Wanjoo (Welcome), which Williams sings in Noongar, is used as the welcome siren in several Perth schools.

Well, we've had rather a full weekend. First thing Saturday was pancakes on the patio as @rdm had made butter during the week. Consequently there was buttermilk - and the best use of that is clearly pancakes.
This stood us in good stead for the next bit which was to drive about 40 minutes South for a kiddy birthday party, where we joined the birthday kiddo and friends and family for cake and chatting.
Then it was off to Walyalup for us! We decided to have lunch at Run Amuk which does gourmet hot dogs with gluten free options. So delicious! The hot Easterly Wind (Nundat) at our backs we picnicked on South Beach in the shade. It was delicious food but the hot wind wasn't to our taste so we didn't linger.
We wandered to our hotel, The Hougoumont which has tiny, tiny rooms but great, great staff. And a lovely foyer to chill in and enjoy complimentary coffee whilst waiting for the room to be ready. So I did a couple of drawings out of my comfort zone, again ink straight to paper - and rdm read. Then we flaked in our room for a bit before dinner at Benny's (recommended) and icecream at Kuld (even more recommended).
Then it was time for the drone show which was great! A giant crocodile invaded from the North, and this came to the attention of one of our local guardian Wargul , the great rainbow serpent so there was a bit of a conflict in the sky.

Then it was back to the hotel for a bit of a watch - Marcia Hynes introing Rage and then sleepy bos.
The next day we woke and enjoyed our complimentary gf breakfast in the foyer, and then checked out as we had stuff to do at home and lunch with friends to attend.
We saw their travel photos of Queensland, chatted and showed the video from the drone show, and then went home by way of JB HiFi (I want my sister to try the astrophotography with the phone thing, so I'm buying her a tripod for her phone to encourage her) and watched Taskmaster with Mum over coffee and chocolate gingerbread.

Kaya koorda - Hello friends and the 16th #ArtInkInOctober entry is just me doodling a whole bunch of things that you might see here in beautiful Nyoongar boodja and writing the name - in this case the words are from Aunty Sharon Gregory's Marribank orthography based dictionary - there are several different sources, this is the one I'm using.
My Nyoongar language teachers tell their students that it is quite okay for non-Nyoongar people to share what we have learned, but they ask us not to go out there and teach others.
It's a Cross pen which I thought I'd cleaned out adequately before I put some Noodler's Cactus Flower ink in it which is a bright vermilion colour. Oh well, perhaps it will get brighter as we go on, there's obviously still something else making its..mark.

Yesterday was the official tone-deaf Australia Day, rdm and I decided to spend it at work, and I think I might have typed two small sentences in English, and maybe a paragraph of English in spoken words, the rest was in #noongarlanguage. I think we might have gone up a level after that, language wise. It was challenging but felt very good.
In the evening rdm cooked a cake and we took turns reading from a couple of Kim Scott's Wirlomin Nyoongar books, Ngaarwily Nop and Yira Boornak Nyininy. Wirlomin, which are a Nyoongar group further South from us is still recognisable and understandable when you're studying the LOTE/Marribank/Whadjak-mokiny teachings. It was interesting that I was automatically translating the differences between Wirlomin and Marribank on the fly as I read.
Yira Boornak Nyininy is a very funny read, it's not a mythic tale by any means, it's about a Nyoongar guy, his wife, a white guy and a tree.
Ngaawily Nop is about a young fellow looking for his uncle.
Djiba-djobaliny has constantly proved to be the most popular word with people beginning Nyoongar language classes. It means swimming.
Wednesday night we had a good turn out for the Perth Meetup SF&F online Let's Talk about Autism and Neurodivergence in SF&F and some great discussion. Next month we'll be talking about The Prisoner from 1967. We will be screening the 1st episode at February's Watch2Gether.
Had a super time at Genghiscon. Lovely location and Wayfarers of the South Tigris is a great game.

There are more than 7000 living languages, and over 8000 known natural languages listed in ISO 639-3.
I've already seen a few posts in less common languages, e.g. #noongarlanguage.
It would be nice if Mastodon allowed those posts to be marked as such, even if there are no translation tools available..
